Default 2005 OBP STi spring detail

This past week was my spring break so I took the whole week off from both of my jobs and busted out a ton of work on the STi (Serious suspension build and detail). To follow are pictures of the mayhem.

I'll start with the spoiler removal, cleanup/repair:

Spoiler removed:

Washed:

Claybarred:

Now on to the actual detailing:

I've been a Zaino user for years now, but I won't be bothering with it for this car anymore. This year and last year I ran into the same problem of the Z-2/Z-5 leaving streaks and not leaving as great of a shine as they did on the other cars I have used Zaino on. I don't blame the product, as the new pieces that I bought didn't steak up or haze over, it's something about the crappy old paint on the car itself. Anyhow, i ended up topping it all off with a coat of Collinite's 845 and couldn't be happier with the ease of use of the Collinite's. It's also extremely durable, I used it prior to this winter and water was still beading up on my car as I washed it for this detailing session.

Here's the process I used:
1. Washed car with Dawn
2. Claybarred with Zaino Z-18 using detail spray as a lubricant
3. Polished using Zaino ZPC and a Lake County orange 4.5" pad on my PC7424
4. 2 coats of Zaino Z-2 activated with Zaino ZFX flash cure additive, with a Z-6 wipedown after both coats
5. Collinite's 845 Insulator Wax applied

Overall I think the car looks good. it looked better before I used the Z-2. I should have just used the Collinite's to begin with. I partially debadged the trunk and also removed, cleaned under, repaired and reinstalled the spoiler. Yes it was off and yes I put it back on. Problem? I also replaced the front splitters and rocker panel covers with new, OEM, pre-painted pieces bacuse the splitter were beat up badly and the paint was coming off of the rocker panel covers in large flakes. I put my V-Limited replica lip back on as well.
And on to the finished product, this is also with all the parts installed except for the new tires, but they went onto the same wheels so the look is basically the same:

Mine sees winter every year as well. I wish I had a daily driver, but for now it's my only car

I can say this for certain: my OBP STi is my first, and last black car. It looks awesome when it's clean but I can't stand how easily it shows dirt, swirls, or any imperfections.

heard that. my last car was black with black wheels and, while so sexy when clean, was a nightmare to keep that way

It loves it! I pour a can into the gas tank every 5000 miles

Thanks guys!

I put a lot of time and effort into my details and it always pays off. the car got wet this morning on my way to work and then dust settled on it all day. When I got home and hosed it off, the water all beaded right off. I love that

Sti looks awesome!

With your experience, do you recommend Collinite products over Zaino for subaru paints?

I would have to say that I'm starting to feel that way. I love the way Zaino has worked on my previous GM vehicles, but it just isn't worth it on the Subaru. I'm sticking with Collinite's from here on out.

I've always loved 845. There are better looking LSP's, but none that offer the mix of looks and longevity at 845 does! Great work!

Have you had to replace any bolts/ nuts on the wing? I need some and am not sure where to get them, if you happen to know? Also, what do you use to seal the wing down, like a double sided 3m tape?

Btw, car looks great, the cleared headlights rock!

This. (See the color description to the left?)

I swore I wouldn't buy another black car after dealing with my black Civic but unfortunately, it was all that I could find.
Good job on the detail!

I highly recommend it. I think I'm going to buy some of the 476s wax, it's supposed to be even more durable than the 845 Insulator wax.
