Default Smelling kind of rich

Well i just looked at an 05 WRX today and it smelt kind of rich coming from the engine. It has a TBE but when i was behind the car i didnt smell it anymore. Could this be because whoever switched the exhausts reused the old gaskets or something?

What do you mean by "smelled kind of rich"? What does rich smell like? Does it smell like raw fuel? If it smells like raw fuel, there could be a fuel leak. I don't remember the exact years, but the WRX had a problem with a leaky fuel line that would be worst when the temperature was cold. My 02 had the problem, and it was fixed under a recall.

If the car does not have any catalytic converters, it may have a fuel smell around the exhaust.

Sounds like a fuel leak to me. Find out if the fuel line recall affects the 05 as well, it might need to be done.
