Default Okay....I'm sick of always bottoming out!

As my 02 bugeye sits currently, it has GR-2 struts with Prodrive lowering springs and I don't know if it's just a bad strut/spring combination but I'm sick of my suspension always bottoming out over medium to small size bumps that are on every darn road.

A stiff ride is one thing but when you feel it almost like it's hitting the very frame of the car, that's something else.

Does anyone else have any issues with this combination? Think maybe the struts are just too worn out? Keep in mind I didn't install these myself and I think they've been on the vehicle awhile...

Maybe time for new struts....anyone have any recommendations on a kind that would go good with the prodrive springs?

Thanks

How many miles on the struts?

If the struts are ok, dump the springs for STI take offs. They can be had for cheap. The GR-2/STI spring combo works well (the springs are at the upper limit of what the struts can handle though).

To make the STI springs work with your struts, you would need 04-07 rear top hats and 921 spacers (very easy).

If the struts are shot, then you have to ask yourself what kind of ride you want out of the car. Once you know this, then you can decide on a good damper/spring combo for what you want.

You are on your bump stops. The springs are too low and too soft. I tried some similar springs once. I could not get rid of them fast enough.

The GR2 is a decent all around basic strut

If the PD springs are too stiff, they'll quickly wear out a GOOD strut and be horrible on a worn out strut..

If you are bottoming over little to nothing the strut is gone..

As stated above, you might want to either look for different springs (while replacing struts) or go with different struts to mate better with the springs you've got
