Default 98 EJ25D with 96 HLA heads

I need some advice.

I have an empty ej25d block and some 96 hla heads. If I use ej25d pistons my compression ratio will be low. What piston can I use to put me back in the 9.5 area? What about an ej251?

I just picked up a 98 forester s that's missing an engine for 35 bucks and an ipod(what I had in my pocket) Hoping to get back on the road on the cheap using what I have laying around.

My first EJ25 swap was EJ25D bottom end and HLA heads.....the compression was not too low, the motor ran fine.

What gaskets did you use? I assume ej25D?

Did the HLA heads have a bigger combustion chamber? Or why do you think you'll end up with low CR? I wasn't aware that there were any significant differences in the short blocks between the '96 EJ25Ds with the HLA heads and the '97-99 EJ25Ds with the bucket lifters.

Yeah FuJi K did a really nice job documenting it here
post #58 for intake
post #175 showing combustion chamber and

from what I am able to find -

97-99 EJ25D are 46cc
96 HLA EJ25D are 50cc-53cc I have found conflicting evidence in regards to these.
