I don't agree with plumbing it back in to the downpipe. Why did you go external in the first place then? Why not go back to IWG? The benefit of external is that you bypass the primary exhaust....
If you don't like the noise of external, put a muffler on it or go back to IWG... |

EWGs provide superior boost control -- I'd plumb it back into the down pipe. Just my $0.02.

^very difficult to get a quality weld job, that won't last and will compromise your downpipe, also why reintroduce exhaust into the system. EWG muffler is the best alternative in terms of cost, performance and reliability, it is a no brainer. A virgin downpipe will be easier to unload too at the classifieds.

another alternative: get a bigger turbo that takes longer to spool, then you wont need to hear it all the time, just when you want a good kick in the pants

I have used the Supertrapp on a bunch of rotated turbo kit Subarus for customers and it has worked exactly as intended every time. I've never had an instance where boost becomes uncontrollable due to restricted flow. The only difficult part is that the inlet into the muffler is not the same size as TiAL's outlet tube so you need a reducer pipe.

How much does the supertrap drop the noise level? Would you say it's cut in half? more/less?

If the sound of the EWG is annoying and as a daily driver you aren't committed to it then get rid of it. Its purpose is to dispose of those gases and as so the noise is made, it is simple physics that it makes that noise. If you wanna quiet the cabin do so with sound deadening material but don't alter flow to block noise if your car truly needs a EWG then it needs to not be tampered with and in all reality, blatantness, and honesty I would say get used to the sound of fine mechanics or remove it.

The Supertrapps look simple, easy, and judging by the videos effective. So affordable at ~$60.

you could always extend the pipe to its not dumpped right below your feet. You know like aim it to side or farther back behind you. let the sound out around the bottom of the left or right b pillar.

^too much strain at the welds having a long pipe.

Any professional welder should be able to do a fine job plumbing the ewg dump back into the exhaust. Running a small flex pipe alleviates the extra stresses put onto the downpipe by running the dump back into it. Also, as long as it's plumbed back in far enough into the dp and at the correct angle, it won't affect flow that much. Hell, if it's designed correctly it might even help flow at high rpm's. |

Another benefit of an EWG is that you get an actuator with top and bottom ports, for better boost control. You can hook up the solenoid in ways that aren't possible with a regular single-port IWG actuator. You can run more boost with the same-strength WG spring, or you can run a lighter WG spring and have better part-throttle driveability. Another benefit of an EWG is that you get a bigger wastegate port to fix boost creep. Another benefit of an EWG is that you can control boost, which is a real problem when your turbine housing doesn't even have an internal wastegate. ![]() (And as for me, personally, I'm going to switch to one just because removing my IWG will allow me to clock the compressor cover, and that will allow me to run a shorter charge pipe, with fewer bends between the turbo and the intercooler core.) |

Putting these traps on the EWG will be like making your W/G smaller better chances of boost creep on a high power setup.
Best bet would be to buy the perrin dual tube CBE and run your EWG to the smaller second tube! |

Now just need to find a competent fabricator.
