Default Fresh ding after service

I found this ding after an oil change yesterday. I'm 100% sure it wasn't there before so do I take it up with the service department or will they even do anything for me? I might be a little sensitive because it's the first blemish on my new car but I feel like they owe me. Thoughts?

I'd have a heart attack. I've had my car for 1.5 years and am still dent free. It's one thing if you're dumb and end up dinging it yourself but having someone else's carelessness ding your car is extra upsetting. Plus that's a pretty good dent, that didn't happen from breathing on it wrong.

Yes inform them about the dent, they usualy carry insurance for these things, if you don't let them know asap they will deny it and you won't have any chance of getting that paid for

Get back to them asap. If they are a good dealer they should take of it for you. It isn't gonna cost them much most likely and it's only good for thier reputation to keep the customer happy.

Tip to the OP. Whenever I have my car serviced I pull out of their lot to a 7 11 or something do a complete walk around and call it a day.

I had my car serviced and during the compliamentary wash (which I told them NOT to do but did anyways - thats another story), I had hair line scratchs all over the passenger side of my car. I told the service department immediately...The next day my car had a full detail (in and out) with special care to the stratches. No more stratches.

Like my dumbass! My '11 STi wasn't even 5 months old before I left the rear passenger side door open to get my daughter out of her car seat, but then pulled in the gararge like a dumbass. Needless to say I am glad my garage has a wood frame, because brick would have done some damage. I chalk it up to it being my first kid, first trip in car with kid, and about 3 hours of sleep the night before, haha Now I have a nice crease from the top to bottom with NO paint damage. So thank god for PDR, because you can't even tell now.

But like you said if someone else did that...There would have been problems. But I did it and got over it. As they say, s*** happens.

Funny you bring this up because I too told them I didn't need the wash and my first thought when I saw the ding was "this is what I get for thinking I'm protecting the paint job"

Any advice on what kind of work I should expect to fix this? Will I need a whole new front panel there or is this something that can repaired? I just don't want to accept an offer that isn't the best possible fix.

Do you have any Paintless Dent Repair businesses around you? If so I suggest you get a quote from a PDR guy (if he can fix it) before you go anywhere else. Some of those guys can work magic.

I don't think PDR will be 100% because it is deep and on a body line.

He said all they can do is have their dent repair guy do his best to fix it. He seems to think it won't be a problem but I guess we will see.

I'll post pictures when its all done.

Even though your car is dirty, to me it looks like there is possibly a chip in the paint.

Yes, there is a little scratch there

What could they do about a scratch/chip short of repainting the whole panel (which it doesn't sound like they are about to do)

they're going to have to reclear the whole fender at the very least. depends on how deep the scratch is. they're going to have to blend the fender and possibly the hood if it's through the clear and paint. really depedns on how well the painter can mix colors. and that's after the dent is repaired. unlikely they're gonna be able to get that dent out, since like everyone said it's on a body line. so either repair or replace

Picked up the car after the service department had closed so I didn't get to talk to anyone about what they did but I am very happy with the results. Looks like new! Not sure how much this picture helps with all the trees in the reflection but here it is.

Needless to say they have my respect over at Planet Subaru.

Let me shed some light on the situation... For one I work in the service dept for Mercedes Benz and typically the service advisor does a "walk around" on this vehicle to check for any existing dings/dents/scratches. Normally an advisor will do the walk around with the client to inspect the overall condition of the vehicle, under the hood, and the condition of the tires... Most advisors will go ahead and do it without the customer even being aware that he or she is doing so and some will have the customer participate. Once that's been performed and the paperwork has been handed over to you, there should be a copy of the pre-write that contains the documented blemishes so you might wanna check the copy of your repair order/invoice.

Subaru is not Mercedes, and the dealership already fixed the problem. I am not trying to be a smart ass but you really cannot compare the service standards and practices of a Mercedes dealership to that of a Subaru dealership (in MOST cases). I love Subaru as much as anybody...but it is NOT Mercedes.

For the money they charge for simple service items and the simple fact that the vehicles are worth far more. I'm sure an inspection is required for liability reasons.

As far as PDR not possible as stated above due to the body line. On my new 11 sti (same color) some DBag at my work hit my front fender dead center above wheel. Dented centered on the line just like yours. Because of the line they had to stud gun and paint. I have a $500 deduct, total cost $460ish. My first new car, needless to say I was the hulk for about a week. Now it's repaired, looks perfect again. Thinking about those dash cams that activate on shock.

The guy above me said it cost him $460 to fix it? That sounds like a huge bill for such a tiny dent/scratch

Thats "supposed" to be a standard practice at all dealerships now. There's been customers with magnets on there vehicles hiding holes from a forklift. The customer went straight to the magnet peeled it off and blamed the service dept. Needless to say the judge sided with the customer.

Im a tech at a Datsun dealership and our advisors are supposed to do this check but they fail to do it anyways, it'll be their jobs on the line in the long run.
