It wouldn't surprise me if the tech has access to other diagnostic equipment or an open ECM that would allow for calibration creation on the fly. There could be other factors on why you are running lean that aren't throwing codes or that aren't able to be picked up through the dealer level software.

Unfortunately this seems like a very odd problem that isn't typically experienced and outside of a test lab with engines that are instrumented for testing, it becomes a challenge to diagnose and trouble shoot, especially at a dealer where a chassis dyno isn't available to do repeat runs easily.

As far as the custom calibration goes, it is possible that your car may end up with something specific to it. When it comes to complex machinery like engines some times things don't always stack up correctly and the calibration may not account for those outliers. Releasing the cal YOUR car ends up with may not be the right thing to do for all of the other cars that are more, for the lack of a better term, average. It would definitely be interesting to see what ends up needing to be changed.

Either way, best of luck to you.

Also there is a lot of documentation here about full throttle acceleration runs but is it common practice to get part throttle dyno runs with AFR as well?

I am throwing codes. Multiple misfire codes on bank 1. I'm not sure how far people have followed this post. But. Bank 2 pistons were smoked causing misfires. Pistons were somehow installed in the block wrong according to the tech who tore it down. This caused just enough damage to the block to warrant a short block replacement. I picked up the car, 2 miles later misfire on both cylinders bank 1. The tech who cleared the code and over and over the codes came back in less than a minute. 3 times in a row. So now its day 24. Awaiting Cigarette Smoking Man ( CSM ) to show up with the secret tune.. ( insert X files theme song here )

If you do end up getting rid of your STI, I feel sorry for the poor bastard that ends up buying it used.

So the dealer just called. Turns out Subaru had someone their first thing this morning. A couple of days ahead of time. The dealer is putting miles on it all day. So far everything is fine.

I'd still push for them to take it back and you get another. You'll always worry about seeing that CEL pop up even if it never does return. Or try to push for a mod free card (you never know!)

Nothing was said to me besides, " its all set " .. they flashed the new mystery tune and had been driving it throughout the day data logging to see what gives with the new map. All that I know so far is it never pulled timing as I was told. Before all of this, that car would fall on its face under WOT in sport sharp VDC off. I always thought the awd slowed it down. But I am no tuner. I always new that car wasn't right. Try to relay those concerns with no codes. Once the codes had emerged I feared something bad was on its way. And what a pain in the ass this has been. I broke 100 MPH twice in that car. The last time I did it the check engine light and VDC were flashing until I slowed down. The car had it gremlins. I hope they are all due to a bad motor and tune. I just don't trust that car. And with no real explanation's to those WTF issues I don't have much to go on.. I just hope they got it right.

I cant duplicate that car. At least no where in Subaru of New England's inventory is there a 2012 STI SWP limited sedan. Besides another car loan activity on my credit won't help my score. And there is no way I am paying reg and tax again. So that alone would start yet another pissing match. The things I had to say to SOA to get the guy here first thing this morning 2 days ahead of schedule was a big enough headache. I am literally having dreams of my cars speedometer not working. Even my subconscious thinks that car sucks. About the Mod Free card , thats never going to be on the table. I still am trying to get good old Subaru to work on there customer retention skills. Those zombies never even asked what they could do to make me happy. 25 days out of service, countless consecutive misfire issues before the tune. Things are stacking tall in my corner if any more problems like this occur.

All I can say is throughout this whole ordeal of yours, you've shown the patience of a Shaolin monk. I would have gone postal after the second motor.

Thats awesome ! Everyone is blown out by from lack of give of shi*t . SOA doesn't care. The guy who called me back to tell me they can't tell me anything , I did day some motivating words to the guy. Enough so I am getting my car back today. Remember that is days ahead of schedule. And its being driven to me 3 hours away. The dealership, can't yell at them. They have been wonderful. The way I look at it. Its a month of mileage saved , I already have put SOA on notice as to my feeling of not being able to trust the car, it was out of service for 25 days already. Best case scenario - the car is perfect and I have no more problems , I win ! The worst case scenario - The car continues to fail and eventually goes to lemon law they have to buy it back and I get enough money back for at least 5 Dodge Omni's and I win again ! Grasshopper is wise and can't seem to find his give a fuk !

lol drove a dodge caliber base model 5 speed since my brother had one as a loaner, what. a. piece. Was fun reving it up at every stop light and doing clutch drops in the rain. I don't think I'd want two of those over an STi.. Then again maybe I would! Sorry to hear about all crap man but at least you will come out on top!

So the car is back to me they delivered it to me at work. No chance to drive it yet. Oh and one of my wheels was destroyed while they had it. They already ordered me a new one. I asked another nasioc member to post the pics of my cylinder walls and wheel.

They have no idea , a salesman took it to fill it up. He's the only person who handled the thing out side of the cop who drove it to me and the sales manager who is so pissed off he has to eat a wheel. But he saw the photo and could tell it was fresh. Looks like a gas pump island curbing to me. My luck is just awful. Oh well. What can I do?

Wow, all that frustration then someone curbs the thing. Hopefully they didn't do any damage other than the wheel.

Exactly my thoughts. Im at work right now , every time I see my car I am looking for damage now! Then when I start driving it, I'll be waiting for a noise or smell or code to pop up. I really think someone is trying to tell me something. This is just unbelievable. Pics should be up soon.
