Default New Build... 1989 Batmobile

That's right.. you didn't read it wrong.. I'm building the 1989 Batmobile from the Keaton movies.

It has been a dream of mine for 15 years and I have actually been researching the project for the last 10 years. Now it is time to get rolling on the project. I've spent the last 5-6 years working on my DIY skills and I feel like I'm ready now.

And really.. if not now... then when

I've decided to move the updates for my Batmobile project from my other thread for my Subaru to point here since I think it is right to give the project its own thread. I've taken the Subaru as far as I want and it was just time to close that chapter and start a new project.

I've been lucky enough to have Centerline Wheels come on-board as a sponsor and the project is underway. I also have a lead on a donor car that is in good condition for $500

I'll post updates in this thread and you can also follow along with my Blog! Building the BatBerry

The car will be painted exactly like my Subaru with the Flat textured graphite and the wheels will be bronze like my works. I need a set of twins!!

Hell of a project! I saw one of the movie cars back in 1990 when I was 12 and it was amazing to me at the time. Heck, it is still cool. I will definitely follow this.

Not to throw this thread off, but do you have a build thread of your Subaru? I would love to see what you did to it and why you consider it done. It must be just right.

Edit: I just saw the thread, lol.

Yeah, it will be fun creating the interior. The trick will be keeping it looking screen accurate but re-purposing the switches and lights for actual functions in the car.

I think you're going to have to start adding the "bat" prefix to everyday objects you use during this build.

It's not a "wrench, it's a "bat-wrench" and so on and so on.

Any idea yet how you're going to recreate the afterburner and what sort of legal issues does having something like that on a road car create?

There is no legal standing for WB to take it away.. No worries.. try not to believe what you see in a Drew Carey episode

Replicas are sold as a legit business

I'm guessing as long as you don't try and make a buck by passing it off as a "genuine" Batmobile they'll leave you alone ??

Pretty much. The best thing that happened was that DC comics patented the Batmobile appearance which expired in 2004... So everyone is free to make the same design now.

The sticky parts come in with trademark infringement. They have trademarks on Batmobile and Batman. You can use these terms in talking about likeness, or in conversation. However you can not use them in product names to play off their brand recognition to sell your product without permission by the trademark owner.

That is why you will see these kits sell under names like "Gotham Cruiser", "Gotham Avenger" etc.
