Question Transmission

Hey guys, new here; I picked up a 93 legacy sport turbo with automatic transmission for dirt cheap. Needless to say I hate automatic transmissions and this one did not last too long after I turned the boost up haha. Looking to do a five speed swap. I searched the forums before posting and could not find what year transmissions would fit this. I know I need a transmission with hydraulic clutch, but I do not know what years. Can I take a 5mt from a late 90's legacy and put it in my early 90's? As for that, would a 5mt from other models bolt up also?

I know I need to get the axles, crossmembers, pedal assembly, driveshaft, rear diff, flywheel, and a few other things. anything else I would need to know for this swap besides it's going to be a pain in the ass? haha

Any help is much appreciated, Thanks!

Also on rs25 DIY section.

Although it is for an Impreza. It cant be that different from a legacy.

Use any 5mt you want from the 90+(not usure of the newer stuff) just makes sure you get the right clutch setup, matching diff rear ratio and pedal box to go with it.

Since you have to get all the parts for this swap you can run either a cable set up or a hydro set up, depending on the transmission type. I did my swap with a 2001 Impreza 5 speed. You can pretty much use any of the 5 speeds you like but you have to have matching differentials. 90-94 N/A's used a 4.11 diff set up while the turbo Legacys used a 3.90. the only reason why I went with a 3.90 is because I have the 91 year only LSD rear end. I also used a 2.5rs clutch.

For the wiring read the write ups here: http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/...lectrical.html
