Default 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Under Fire Investigation

Quote:
Possible engine fires in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze are being investigated by NHTSA after two have been completely destroyed.
Luckily no injuries have been reported with the fires, which Cruze owners are reporting began while the cars were moving. One complaint from a Cruze owner said, “The car was totally engulfed within five minutes of stopping, and it was only after the first sign of fire was visible that the warning light on the dashboard illuminated.” The driver was 30 miles into a 43-mile trip.
If there is indeed a recall on the Cruze, it could be a costly one depending on the defect. Chevrolet sold 177,000 2011 Cruzes and is cooperating with the investigation

I blame outsourced parts vendors, and probably a dumb 2 dollar part.

Chevy should replace your car if it catches on fire with atleast a Camaro.

Hmmmm, I will take what you say to be true. I thought GM has the same shenanigans as Chrysler.

I will dig up more on this later tonight to verify, but for now I will believe you.

As bankruptcies go, Chrysler was the muddy one since the secured loan holders were strong armed into accepting the only (surviving) outcome. Approximately 80% of lenders willingly agreed to it (since they were banks and firms that were recipients of TARP funds). The remaining 20% eventually had to rollover to ensure that they would be able to continue their investment and trading operations (firms would have refused to do business with them).

GM was very orderly and pretty much to the letter.

It is VERY possible I got the two blurred together. VERY possible.

Thanks for the info, I will try to find out where I went astray tonight with some late night research.

I think more MINI Coopers have burnt to the ground over the auxiliary water pump shorting out.
