Why would you think a dash cam is illegal? Go right ahead and mount one. From some of the stupid things drivers around here do it may be a really good idea.

AFAIK, dash cams are legal. I don't own one yet but I intend to get a Blackvue DR400G. A bunch of people from Revscene are using that camera. You can browse through this RS thread to learn more about what locals are using: http://www.revscene.net/forums/65043...m-rolling.html

I'm using Blackvue DR400G HD also. GoPro are nice for motorsport use but Blackvue is much better for everyday use(I got both of them)....especially in low light situation. I bought one when they had a group buy on Revscene, considering buy a couple more for my family members.

Just way too many close calls happened these days. I thought it's a good idea to have a cam running. That may help me in case something really happen & I can't find a witness.

If u guys want the blackvue, PM F30 on revscene, i believe hes trying to get a group buy going, but not many people is in for the 2nd group buy.

if u guys r serious, lets make this group buy happen, cause i know i want at least 2 blackvues.

How much does the group buy make them?

I was considering the hero2 because of the quality, but i'd totally leave the dash cam in the car. So I'm rethinking hero for trackdays etc, and the other cheaper one that's still decent HD video.

SD gonna be cheap because of my hookups muahhaha

I'd like to get in on this too... I need one for my car after my accident, so I'd be happy if we could get a group buy going. I'm not on RS though, so would someone be willing to forward my email to F30?

Night time video with a 1st gen GoPro HD:

Night time video with a BlackVue DR400G HD, shot by one of the RS member:

There's no GPS & G-sensor on a GoPro which makes the DR400G a much better dash cam choice. I still love how GoPro works on shooting motorsport events though, especially on wind noise control...

I use a dr400g-hd, video quality wise is pretty good. Sometimes its not as good if you are directly facing the sun. Audio is also medium quality.

Yeah, i've seen everything from cheap china cams that don't have any use and the first exhaust noise lose all audio.

Still interested for a ballpark price if anyone's done the research.

Alright, I PMed F30 on RS (finally managed to register), and he says he is working on the second group buy, but doesn't have enough people to get a good price yet... I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this, (mods edit this out if need be), but I told him I'd see how many people here are actually interested and willing to get in on this group buy, so I thought maybe we could start our own little list? That way, if you guys aren't on RS (and don't intend on registering just for this), I can pass him a list of how many people are interested, and (once we get to that point) some contact information.

Again, I'm NOT the person responsible for or organizing the group buy, I'm not accepting money, I'm not offering you gilded lilies and virgins, I'm just trying to get a list of folks that may be interested in purchasing a dash cam at a discounted price, and then passing it on to the person organizing it.

Again, mods, I apologize if this is out of bounds... I didn't see anything in the forum rules regarding group buys, so just edit the relevant parts out if need be.

No idea... My understanding is that the last GB was about $180 apiece. Not sure what'll happen now, as apparently the price has gone up, but I've asked him to give me a rough estimate on price, so as soon as I know more I'll put up the info. When I was looking for one a while ago, the good ones were in the range of about $300, so I would expect to pay maybe $200-$250, give or take, but I'm not sure how he's setting it up so I make no guarantees on pricing. Personally, I'd be happy if it was about $200 and the quality is good, but I've got first-hand experience on how much it sucks to not have proof, and if I'd had a dash cam last year I could've saved myself much more than that.

One more note: If you're on RS, and you've already PMed F30 about this, or if you're planning on PMing him there, then don't put your name down on the list... I don't want him to think he has 10 or 15 people interested on NASIOC, just to find out that most of them have already PMed him on RS.

OBP: Thanks for that update... I didn't think about the conversion rate, as I assumed it was CAD, not US dollars, but I'll keep that in mind.

However, he says that the regular price is around $250 each, and he's trying to get it down below $200... Then again, the more people we have, the cheaper it'll be! Come on people, don't be fools, get proof! I have to repay almost $3000 in damages to ICBC for an accident I didn't cause, and if I'd had video proof I wouldn't have to pay anything! Don't be like me, get a dash cam before you need it!

might as well right, when something happens i guess ill be happy i have proof plus someone backed into my car before but lucky someone got the plate or i would have had to pay for a new grill, hood and JDM headlight. so having the BlackVue DR400G HD with the impact detection system would be nice.
