Yep, I agree... I looked into this a couple months ago, but haven't had a chance to buy one yet. It's a good thing that RX Renesis mentioned that someone was trying to start up another group buy on RS...

At least we're generating some interest! I talked to the guy again and he said he'd get back to me about how many we need in order to get the price down to about $200 apiece, so hopefully we'll have an idea soon of when this will happen.

Hmm...are there 2 or 3 channel models so I can record from the front, rear, and maybe inside?

Not sure... The video showed some switches on the side, but I can't tell if those are channels or increments of time for length of recording. I'm considering getting a couple for myself... One to cover the front, and one to cover the inside and rear. Even if you can't record onto the same one, you can always have two separate videos, one for the front and one for the rear.

Nothing yet. I tried contacting the guy a few days ago, but he hasn't gotten back to me with how many people we need to get the price down to $200. I'll give him another shout today to see what's happening.

Original RS group buy was through this guy: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-BlackVue-...item4ab5d89c9b

Order was for 20 units, final price after just under $200 CAD.

ebay link shows only 8 units left though..

It's being organized by another guy on RS, I'm just taking names, as mentioned... Prices have gone up since the GB though, so not sure how it'll work out this time.

link says more than 10 units available, its $22X USD each, im sure if we organize one ourselves for like 20+ units we can get it under $200 each.

If someone from VIC is willing to take over the group buy, I'd happily hand my money over to them instead... We've already got a few people interested, so I'm sure we could get an order of 20 units in.

Still nothing from the guy on RS, although to be honest I haven't really thought about this in the last few days what with exams and all... I'm PMing him right now to ask if there's any updates.

Maybe they got more in, at the time of posting that link, it said 8. Now it says only 10 units.

I have time, but I don't use PayPal or eBay... I'm willing to contact the seller and get stuff worked out, and I'm willing to bring stuff across the border, provided I don't get stuck with customs/duties. Only thing I can't do is send the payment, and I'm not keen on getting into that... If someone else can handle that, I'm happy to help out with the rest.

Any reason why you guys aren't looking at some of the cheaper models?

Had a response from the guy yesterday, but it doesn't look good. Apparently he can only get it down to about $250 apiece from the factory, so he's going to see if he can work out a better price, but it's not looking likely. I haven't looked at Ebay prices, but if they're lower it's probably due to buying in bulk. In any event, we might have to start looking for someone else to take over the GB, or wait and see if another one will happen on RS (like spoon mentioned). I'm good either way... My car's off the road for a while anyway, so as long as it happens sometime by mid-Summer, I'll be happy.

Minifreak: Haven't checked out the cheaper models, but I'm after something that's got reasonably good resolution, can record well at night, and has a decently wide angle. The BlackVue offers all that, and the price isn't too terrible... I've never used one, but I'd hate to buy a cheap one just to find out it doesn't work up to my standards, and then have to go buy a better one the second time around. $200 isn't much to spend if it'll save me from being liable for an accident that's not my fault.

Based on what's available on the ebay description the two units has the same resolution, the cheaper version has slightly wider angle, and neither model mentioned anything about low light quality. Considering these are ebay products that means they aren't going to be using top end sensors so why would you pay almost 3 times as much?

I have seen even cheaper models with build in infrared LED, but when it is mounted inside the car a good portion of that will simply get bounced back by the windshield. But we are talking about 50 dollar cameras with slightly wider angle.

Personally I'd probably grab a Sony Bloggie's 360 panorama lense and mod of of the cheap camera to give me full 360* around the car

I've seen cheaper models floating around sporting the same "resolution" but at the end of the day, its about the lens. What good is a 12MP sensor if the video looks like crap?

The night time looks good from what I seen on most people's cars for the BlackVue.

I'm really just waiting for a price break since it's not a necessity, but definitly nice to have (both for fun and insurance-like reasons)

Minifreak: I'll take a look at the other one... I agree about just buying mini-video cams, and wiring them up to work. You could get full 360-degree coverage (inside and outside), and it might be cheaper. However, I would just go with two or three cameras set around the car, rather than one with a 360-degree lens... I doubt you'd be able to get enough clarity on something like that, and watching it would just be annoying. Still, wiring up a regular camera to turn on and start recording every time you start the car would be a bit of a pain... Doable, I'm sure, but still a pain.

Better make sure it's not one of those without serials. There's a buncha domestic sellers that are scratching off SNs because they can only sell locally in SK. from the RFD thread (read the latest 20 pages or so) it would seem that there's quite. Afew eBayers that got those, but isn't a big issue unless warranty comes up.

My friend is gonna try to help me get one as his gf is due back from korea soon. Not the best pricing, but certaintly better than hellfire's GB on RFD.

Now onto the confusing bit, does anyone know what's the whole power magic [pro] for? I mean, you wire it to an always on fuse, and it should drain from battery, no? From what it says, "prevents battery drain by setting"

So uh... Anyone have one? I tried to sift through that RFD thread but it's like 65 pages of cheapasses going on and on...

the power magic pro is useless unless u plan on running the blackvue while the car is turned off. the power magic pro is used to detect voltage from the battery and once the voltage goes below a certain level, it cuts off power to the blackvue to prevent total drainage of the car battery so u cant start ur car. thats all it does...
