Default Any free maps anywhere?

Alright so please bear with me, this is my first time tuning ANYTHING. I just got my Tactrix 2.0 cable in the mail and I hit the internet trying to figure out what the hell I was doing. The first thing I noticed is that there are no free maps available besides stockers . So right off the bat it looks like the cheapest stage 1 map I can buy is a Torqued Performance map, so that's $85 .. It also looks like there is no reselling rights to these maps because I don't see anyone else selling them. Is this correct? Are there no free maps anywhere??

1. Torqued Performance has probably the best and most highly recommended OTS maps around. Eric should probably be charging significantly more than he currently does for them. He's got STI maps in the works too, but AFAIK they're not quite ready for distribution yet.

2. A good place to look for base maps is the romraider forums. There are a number of St1+ maps for your car here:

yeah I already looked there and there's only 3 or 4 of them and none look too appetizing.. are there any other budget options? I don't want to go with something too expensive seeing that I'm going to be adding parts as the funds allow and that would just be a waste of money.. I would only want to buy a protune style map when my car is exactly how I want it..

I can appreciate the desire to save money with open source. Maybe contact some reputable tuners and ask if they have base maps or OTS maps?

It's also a good opportunity to compare the stock map on your car with the base maps available at romraider. See what's changed and why.

For a $35k car, anything under $100 is almost a rounding error. I do agree that spending ~$400+ for a pro-tune is something best done when you get the hardware to a point you plan on staying for a year or so.

So what's the deal with any resale of say a TP map? Is that not allowed? I realize that each one is dialed in to that specific car but what about the baseline map? stage1/stage2 map?

What exactly do you mean by "resale?" Once you buy it from TP, are you allowed to go around and sell it to other people? No, it's a software license to you and you alone. If other people want it, they buy it from TP.

Are you looking for someone to sell you a TP map for cheaper than $85?

If you can't afford a basic map then maybe you should rethink modding your car. You have to "pay to play".

Very well said.

As an owner of a stage 2 TP tune, I can say that you will be very happy with the 80 some dollars you'll spend.

I'm currently at 295 HP and 337 lb-ft or torque at the wheels, up from the stock 222 HP. A HP-to-dollar ratio like that is hard to beat.

I think the XPT Stg2 is the cheapest at $55. I'd rather pay that then take a free map from someone that may not even know how to work a computer

That price doesn't apply to all maps, stages, or years.

I agree that I'd rather pay a bit over taking a free map from a person I don't know.

I'd rather just tune it myself, as I don't know the person I'd be paying either...

I've been talking to Clark Turner.. seems to be one of the more expensive tuners out there at $300 for a stage 3 tune w/ e85 map.. buuuuuuuuuuuut I'm going to give it a shot. He didn't like the walbro I ordered and suggested a dw65c and dw850cc injectors so I'm gonna go his route and let you all know how it turns out!

Good luck! Do post your updates (and any before/after dyno graphs/logs you get during the process).

hey pippen, did you take a look here? http://www.osecuroms.org/index.php

I've downloaded Gabedude's stg1 map for my car and copy/paste the tables to the original rom...

EDIT: sorry, I've saw your car's model after I posted here
