Sorry, I've been hiding under a rock for a few days.

Full story:
I had a CEL(p0420) because of cat converter efficiency(cat is bad + header). But it runs fine.

I went to lunch one day it ran fine, no issues. 45 minutes later I went to leave again, it started fine and ran good for 100 or so yards, stopped at a stop sign, then when I went to pull out it ran really rough, sputtering, a surge, sputter. A lot like it was starving for gas, I tried to u turn and make it back to the shop, got 45 yards down the road after turning around and it died, wouldn't start again. It would "run" if I mashed the gas and held the starter at least trying to fire. Got towed back to the shop, went and got a fuel filter(it was low on gas and a 12 year old tank) cheap easy first try. Also disconnected the battery to clear the code so I could watch for another CEL. No good, disconnected the fuel line from the rail, primed the pump into a cup and it didn't seem like enough. So we pulled it home and changed the fuel pump(walbro) same thing, no start. (Still no codes) at that point, i have fuel, took the intake off the throttle body so, I got air, gotta be spark. Changed the coil pack, still won't start but in the process of trying, threw a code. Borrowed a scanner and got p0341 cam position sensor. Put in a new sensor, cleared the ecu. Same thing no start and same code. Haven't messed with in a few days
Frustrated.
Plus I had to be killed on a children's playground.
Marty and Jaret can chime in if I missed something while they were helping

Not sure about the playground thing...

However, there are quite a few things that could cause a no spark condtion other than just the ignition system. Based on the description of how it happened (very quickly without any real warning), it means that it is prolly a hard failure of some component. Here are a few ideas that i would check:

Fuel Pressure Regulator - These have been known to go bad when a subaru gets older and cause a blockage on the back side of the system. If the vehicle can not return fuel to the tank properly, than you will get to omuch pressure at the rails and basically 'flood' the car every time you try to start it. This will usually be accompanied by a fuel smell when cranking the car. This can be checked by checking the fuel pressure at the rail...i think auto parts stores loan out fuel pressure gauges, if not, i have one you can borrow if need be. Gotta get an actual fuel pressure reading at the rail before we can really decide if there is a fuel problem.

Fuel Pump Housing - I know you already replaced the pump, but the housing has components in it as well that can cause an issue. There is a bleedback valve that keeps pressure in the lines when you turn of the car (Has the car ever had any long-crank starts?). The pressure in the lines makes the car start faster after it sits a while because you do not have to wait for the pump to prime the lines. I have seen this issue a couple of times where the bleedback valve gets gummed up and could block the flow of fuel and cause a stalling/no start condition. The best way to check this is to either use the fuel pressure gauge and see if the pressure drops rapidly when you shut off the car, or put a clamp on the return line and try to start the car. If the car runs with the return line clamped off, then it could be either of the above issues, but is prolly the bleedback valve and you would replace the whole fuel pump housing.

Crank Position Sensor (CKS) - Many times, the CKS will give you codes for a camshaft position sensor (CPS) because basically, if the two sensors aren't sync'ing up properly, the car will assume there is an issue with one of them. It will throw a code for whichever sensor is 'out of phase' even though that sensor may be fine and the other sensor is causing it to be out of phase. The best way to test this is with a Scantool, you can look at the live datastream and see if the CKS is registering the crank rotation when you crank it. You should get a digital signal wave every time the egine comes around to TDC.

TPS - if the TPS is shorted, then you will get no crank signal as the car will not be able to track the TPS signal. You can check this with a basic multimeter at the TPS connector. You can get the pinout for the TPS online or i can source it from you if need be.

ECM - I have seen a couple of the ECMs from those cars crap out and give similar issues. Unfortunately, the only way to test this really is to swap out the ECM and see if it works, there are no functional tests for the ECM itself. Make sure you check all the fuses and relays in the boxes. There are a couple of fuses that if lown (they can blow due to age) can cause some really funky things to happen with the car and the fuel control system.

Hope this helps a little bit. Let me know if there is anything i can do to help.
