Exclamation Help Please! c0071 Steering angle sensor

I bought a wrecked 2010 Impreza and rebuilt it. Everything is working perfectly except the traction control light will not shut off. I had to replace the clockspring and steering angle sensor. When I took it into the dealership they said the steering angle sensor was bad. So I bought a new one from another dealership because it saved me a lot of money. I installed the new one and the traction control light was off when I started the car up again. However when I drove it about 100 yards the light came on again! So I took it back into the dealership they again told me that I need to replace the steering angle sensor. So I'm out $300 dollars and haven't gotten anywhere.

I found another shop that had the equipment to read the codes and the mechanic said the code it was throwing was c0071 and that there was a steering angle sensor error. After looking into it a little further he said that when he turned the wheel the sensor wasn't picking up any movement.

Does anybody have any idea of what the problem might be, because I've tried everything I can think of?

I pulled apart the whole wiring harness from the abs module to the firewall to see if something was wrong there and I found one wire that was had a little nick in it so I fixed that hoping that was the problem. Sadly it's not so there has to be something else going wrong. Unless somehow a wire got busted in the steering column which is highly unlikely, but heck I've tried everything else maybe I'll tear into it again tomorrow.

Could the ABS module be bad? Is there anyway to tell if that's where the problem is coming from because the computer sure doesn't?

Well pretty much everyone is stuck on this one. I replaced the ABS Module to see if that worked, but sadly it didn't. I guess it's just something I have to deal with.

Did the steering wheel air bag deploy? If it did it may have messed up some wiring in the clock spring.
Had a buddy with same problem that happened when the clock spring unwound when he added a quick release hub and steering wheel. Found a used clock spring and fixed it. Might be worth a shot?

you ever resolve this? i have an 08 wrx having the same issue. but when i scan the car i can see the steering angle sensor reading normal, i replaced it, calibrated it, and cleared codes, the c0071 steering angle senor output code comes right back. i checked for power and ground to pin 3 and 4 and that is good, which leaves the red and blue wire that travels to the abs module. i unplugged the harness at the abs/vdc module and at the angle sensor, checked continuity of the two wires. and when i apply ground to one side, BOTH wires recieve a ground signal, which is indicating to me that the wires are shorted to each other somewhere. ruled out in the plug harnesses themselves, its in the wiring somewhere, aside from going over the entire harness i was wondering if maybe theres a common area to look. looks like the same 2 wires are joined somewhere and travel to the obd connector. im looking for the splice location of those 2 wires, hopefully i find it soon, its driving me nuts.
