Question Clicking suund from rear transfer case

I had the car on a lift with the engine turning the wheels in gear.

We could hear the clicking coming from the rear transfer case.
I talked to a driveline repair shop. They told me its differential not a transfer case.

Can the transfer case be replaced without replacing the whole transmission?

Its the five speed.

Is it dangerous to drive the car as it is now?

There is no t case in a subaru. I think you can replace the center diff with out doing the entire trans but you have to pull the trans out to get to it. How many miles are on your car this could be something thats still under warranty.
