UPDATE* Sent radio back, bought at authorized dealer. Hopefully no more problems (with the new unit)

UPDATE #2: Screen freezes again! Now that the unit has been out longer there is more on the internet about this. I read that some people are having Problems from the ASWC and this unit.. This weekend might disconnect that and see if it works. Someone with the PAC said their's is working fine.

Just installed this HU last night, but already encountered a problem. Twice today while driving the touch screen froze, it wouldn't respond to touches, it still played and the buttons on the bottoms worked (along with SWC). Only way to resolve problem was to turn the car off.

Anyone else had this problem? Also thought maybe the screen needed to be calibrated, which led me to my next problem.

The instruction book says to hold the HOME button (no specified length of time) and the screen calibration menu will appear, but nothing happens. I tired all the way up to 60 seconds, but nothing. Can someone else try it and see if they can get it to open.

I had the HU "OFF" like it says, not powered off, just turned off.

Sounds like a bug in it. My avic did some goofy stuff before I updated the software. Does the issue go away after cycling power?

Return it now. I think some of them are a bit buggy due to such early production. I had to exchange one this week due to a faulty USB problem. It would connect sometimes, but the disconnect randomly. My new unit is working flawlessly though. Just contact your seller and arrange the exchange.

Detachable face unit right... Try resetting the faceplate on the unit.. see if that helps...

Resetting the unit altogether would be next...

Cycling power after that...

If the bugs are still there, id return it...

Is there a software update out for this unit already? Mine was buggy once where the touchscreen buttons wouldn't work, but they started working after i turned the car off/on and haven't messed up since

Nope a 2 hour long conversation with pioneers tier 3 support says there is no software update and no known issues. Le sigh.

Sending it back will be a pain in the ass! (Since I just finished all the wiring!)

Anyway, can any of you open the screen calibration menu?

See if you can just return the H/U without the wiring harness. I've had mine for about a week and I've had no issues since I've installed it...

Good to know. I'll hold off on getting one until they work all the kinks out.

Good luck with your issue, hopefully replacing the unit will do it for you.

Well this company sucks! They are quick to respond about replacing it, but avoid every question about them paying for shipping. I'm going to have them refund me instead of replacing it. Probably have to eat the return shipping.

It's from a amazon storefront...yes I know, not an authorized dealer. I'll spend the extra $100 to buy local.

Plus side, just got my woofer Alpine SWR-1023D and my XM kit in today! Just missing my amp kit...and a new HU LOL

Default Solution to Pioneer AVH-8400BH sticking

The sticking problem seems to be a power issue with the bluetooth on the unit it happened to me twice. It appeared to only happen when I am using a USB device (laptop hard drive in USB enclosure) on USB1 while having my phone paired. I solved this issue by powering the hard drive using a Y-adapter USB chord where the data end of this Y-adapter went into the USB1 of the unit and the power end of the Y-adapter went into a Scosche cigarette lighter USB charger. This somehow provided power and prevented the sticking. After I did this I had no problems with sticking. TRY IT!!!!

Don't have to try it, because that's not the issue (might be one cause though).

Mine happened when listening to the radio or another time while listening to a CD. I don't use bluetooth to stream music (never even got around to pairing the phone) and I don't have the iphone usb cable yet.

I will never buy another Pioneer deck as long as I live. They build nice looking stuff loaded with cool features that works and like ass. Their simple single din stuff is solid but I've had nothing but bad luck. I'm going back to Alpine. I've owned 5 top end alpines, not one issue. I get a 700bt and it's the biggest POS ever and they refuse to own up to their mistakes. They want me to pay over $200 to fix a known hardware issue that THEY have. Bull****.

Ok, finally bought another 8400 and got it installed tonight. Haven't had it in long enough to see if I have the same issues as last time, but now I've found something else.

When I try to use google maps, it says "Failed to receive GPS signal" and it won't work. Anyone else had this problem?

Check the GPS connection, sounds like it's not plugged in....

Your issue is because the DAM HU's USB output is only 1 amp! A HD enclosure + a phone is too much. All that is going to draw way more, hence why your USB Y trick worked...

I've had the issue happen to me 2 - 3 times using either of the GPS Apps while listening to music. I noticed that there was a recent update to the AppRadio iPhone app, so I performed the update; however, the screen froze again over the weekend while using the GPS Drive app. Each time that I experienced the issue, I had to disconnected my iPhone, closed the AppRadio and GPS Apps and turn the car off / back on to regain screen functions. My guess, a bug in either the AppRadio app or the HU, maybe both, but a software update should fix the issue.

I'm running iOS v5.1.1 on an iPhone 4s and AppRadio v1.7.1. I use an OEM iPhone cable on USB2 (just for music) and when I want to use GPS, the Pioneer CDIU201S cable on USB1. I found that the thick Pioneer cable is too cumbersome for daily usage, so that cable is tucked into my glove box. My iPhone is paired for hands-free phone usage, but Blutooth audio is turned off.

I think he meant make sure the GPS antenna is plugged into the back of the unit and that the GPS receiver is touching something metal.

No. This is an App. The phone is the "GPS" unit. Could any 8400 users comment if Google Maps works on their unit.

It worked fine for me. I just prefer the other GPS apps via AppRadio.

Where is your phone at when you try to use google maps? tucked in the dash?

Also may want to pick a new application, google maps does not appear to be a supported appradio app... I'd recommend Waze...

http://pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadio

Pg. 31 of owners manual led to this ^

OR

buy the optional navigation addon from pioneer...
