I didn't pull the SWC at lunch time, our resident ET expert says it should not affect it at all, guess what happened on the drive home? Froze up! I hadn't done anything, no changing screens, nothing. I touched the menu button, and the screen was non responsive. WTF! Killed the engine, fires up perfect again. I played with it for a while last night and would not fail at all. Very frustrating.

So no apps running, just the android for phone and iPod Nano for music? Connected via 2 USB cables or is the Android connected via bluetooth only? I had the screen freeze issue before and after the ASWC, so I'm not even placing that into the equation.

Whatever it is, I hope Pioneer gets their act together because iOS 6 is around the corner, so I hope the current firmware on the HU is forward compatible.
Malfunctioning droid and a rotten apple! lol.! No offense!

Joking aside, it has done it with the bluetooth connected or not. I may try just streaming and see what happens, no Ipod Nano. As others have had issues with and without the ASWC, I won't bother with that one.

I am glad Ethan has had success of some sort with Pioneer, I keep getting told to take it to a repair shop! I will send it back rather than that!

None taken... Haha... Not to get off topic, but what's left these days? Unless QNX or BB 10 make a big splash, Blackberry is dead. Unless Android and iOS take a turn for the worse (doubtful), or carriers give the Windows phones away for free (more than likely), Microsoft is simply 2 years too late to the mobile scene. I dunno... been using an iPhone for the last 2 - 3 years and it simply works. For me to switch now would entail a great deal of expense as I have 3 rotten apples in the family (wife, daughter and I), with numerous accessories and countless paid for apps. Sorry Blackberry and Windows... I took a bite from the forbidden fruit and to stop now is simply too difficult.

Back to our regularly scheduled program... I don't stream audio as I feel the sound stage decreases and there is a perceived difference in bass response. Unless Pioneer foots the bill and pays you for your inconvenience of taking it to the shop, I would simply tell them that route is not an option.

I will probably pull the unit out today and send it back. It is really annoying, but what can we do? The 8400 is amazing, especially when it does not freeze up on me!

I just plugged in the SWC again, so we'll see what happens. I'm sure that since it has frozen before, it'll freeze again. I guess I can live with it, I actually rarely touch the screen.

Well mine is getting pulled and sent out to the seller. I hope the replacement works as intended. It truly is an amazing unit, just with screen freezing issues.

So the next day after I plugged the SWC back in, it froze. Might have been chance, we'll see if it does it today.

Froze again on the way home at the exact point as the other day. I wasn't pushing any SWC buttons though, I watched it freeze. I kept touching the screen and the response was getting slower and slower, then it froze.

Mine is in a box, off to California right now. The seller is very good, so I hope to have a replacement next week. The only advantage of Crutchfield is free shipping! If I have to send another one back, I might have well bought it from them in the first place.

Taking the unit out was so simple, less than five minutes and one out, the POS back in. I am getting good at this.

So we agree, it has nothing to do with rotten apples, evil droids, swc, etc. It has to be firmware. I emailed the pioneer fella, heard nothing back at all. It also seems to only have happened on a few units, however if there are three of four on this forum, there must be a lot of them out there bad.

Mine is still freezing just about everyday, but since the SWC can do everything...kind of...I forget about. I rarely touch the screen so it doesn't bother me anymore. Pissed that I paid that much for something that freezes. Still feel that something else is causing the freezing since I've had two different units I might try taking theSWC off again and seeing the results. Two days wasn't enough last time.

Has anyone bothered to call Metra to ask if maybe it's an issue from the ASWC? I know you've called Pioneer, maybe it's the SWC. I saw someone had issues with and without, but couldn't find that in the previous posts. Just an idea though.

I do not think it is anything to do with Axxess, as people on AVIC411 have had the same problems with PAC.

Now I've had three units, the second one had a DOA screen, which was awesome as I had to pay shipping again.

Third unit is freezing after one day.

It is totally obvious Pioneer have a bug in the system. I am tempted to send it back for a refund, but that means losing $50-60 in shipping for something with FFF'd up firmware.

My guy on Amazon spoke to Pioneer, and they claimed some units were problematic. It would be great to know which batch was the problem, as people all over the USA are having the same problems.

Pioneer products are first class, their customer service ranks about at the bottom.

Hey, i just bought mine and installed it today. How/does that plastic plate fit well in your car? It does not fit at all in mine.. and leaves gaps on the sides. Help!

Stock headunit is larger than a normal double din. You need a double din fit kit from someone like scoshe... Or a JDM impreza dash kit, which fits a normal double din

So just thought I would post an update to this thread since I started it....can't believe that's it's been one year to the day that I started it.

If you live in a hot area, don't get this model. Today it hit 86 degrees and the unit froze again. It hasn't done this since probably Sept of last year! I'm now completely convinced that the heat freezes the screen on this model.

This is my forth replacement, you stand correct it is a heat issue on the screen, when i take the top down of my porsche and the sun shines on the screen it freezes shortly after...

Now what?
