Ah, I don't have an STI, so I didn't recognize that description.

It's all pretty much the same car anyways, just that ours have a tiny turbo stuck on it and a $7k mark up.

I'm sure you're oversimplifying the differences between the NA Impreza and the STI.

Um, well, there's a lot more than that. The 2012 NA Impreza shares almost nothing with the 08+ Impreza/WRX.

So, italia, did you simply cut a hole in the bumper and mount it in, or since you mention "waiting on paint" did you need to do more to it than that?

Yeah, pretty much. I made a template out of very stiff cardboard and made sure the vent was as snug as possible. I'll use that to mark where I need to cut. There is no dedicated mounting system on our cars so some silicone or epoxy will be used to keep them in place. I am waiting on paint to color match them. Between the vents and fog light housings, I think there would be too much black going on. I'll take pics when I'm install them.

baby sti? what is STI about it? sorry, i just see a bunch of lighting/interior accessories and random parts painted black. it would be sweet to see some real STI parts on it, brembos, turbo, etc.

Was just a joke, funny how NA Impreza owners found that to be offensive since I basically called WRX's overpriced.

Also, the "dedicated mounting system" is just 3 white clips that attaches to the bumper, and it "clips" on to the vent when you slide it in. Your dealer might have some.

To the gent above: STI is just Subaru's motorsports branch, so if you look at the OP's original mission statement...it's a pretty close match.

OP's mission statement is about not buying an sti for gas purposes. the STI branch increases performance from the standard. as far as i know STI doesnt make drop in HIDs, led strips, and plastidipped parts.

I think somewhere along the line you my have missed the point behind my build. If I could have afforded a WRX or STi for that matter, that's the car I'd be driving now. I bought the Impreza because it was affordable, I wanted a Subaru and yeah, it get great gas mileage. Now the project name is such because my goal is to get as close as I can to the handling and performance of said vehicle. The mod and changes I have made thus far, reflect what I have been able to afford and given what's available. If I had the money to dump into the suspension and engine, I probably could afford an STi. My build plan will take place over a period of time so the major stuff won't happen till later.

Would you happen to know how those 3 clips are secured to the bumper?

makes sense. I kinda figured. Watch how fast those tiny mods will add up though. I have seen a lot of people spend 3k on real insignificant items and regret not just saving the money for performance parts. Good luck on the build.

Imma draw a ASCII diagram for ya, hope it works:

I DD
I DDD
I DD

Imagine the D's are the D shaped hole you have to cut to fit the vent, the I's would be thin vertical holes/strips in the plastic that the white clips would mount to. There are 3 of them.

A2I: I would argue that HID's does improve performance, since how fast you can drive at low light situations depends on how much light you have.

Thank you. I'll check with the dealer and see about those clips.

No issues whatsoever? I've finally gotten around to hooking up my LED bumper reflectors as well. It seems like my tail lights no longer work anymore, they did when I was testing them during the install last night. It seems like when you have no brake/tail lights you cannot change gears on the selector except for neutral and drive. Hopefully I can have this figured out and fixed by the end of tomorrow. How hard can it be to install LEDs? I'm trying to figure out what went wrong, it makes no sense. Unless I had installed the LEDs backwards and also the lights aren't wired in a series circuit.

Did you get the led bumper reflectors from the same place I did? I didn't have any issues with mine although if you got them from the same place as I did, the directions that come in the box do not apply even though the wire colors are the same. From what you described, you might have a blown fuse or a grounding issue. Can you take a picture of your installation and send them my way. I'll take a picture of mine so you have a reference point.

Im not sure I'll do this kind of mod in the subaru. I have done similar mods on my truck. I'd be more then happy to give you some pointers.

Regarding footwell lights:

If you want them as a "constant on" while the car's running, just use LED strips with a fuse tap. If you want them to only turn on when the doors are open, tap the solid blue wire in the A pillar (dome light). If you want them to turn on when the doors are open, and have the option to have them on when the car's running, you gotta do some witch magic with the dome light, a switch, a relay, and a 12v source.

Ya know, if all goes well with budget and project progress, eventually you're going to have one of these:
