Default need help!!! with my 97 subi

i bought this RHD subi yesturday and i drove it today for the first time and it started to over heat. I was doing the simple checking like step by step what could it be but then i notice that the fans arent moving. the fuses are good but they arent moving. i put a wire from the fan to the battery and its working fine but i gotta take out the wire when i turn the car off. what could be the problem?? im new to subis so idk what im doing? lol

Coolant temp. sensor.

Theres 2 of them, one for the instrument cluster and one for the ECU. The second later one is what you need; since it triggers the ECU to turn on the fan.

I would remove, and test for resistance w/ a multimeter. In the mean time, I would jump the fans and run them on via a switch or always constant on; until you recieve your new temp sensor.

I would also do a leak down test/compression test to see if the engine is in good health; as well as a hydrocarbon test as well as look in the coolant overflow tank for bubbles. If you see any bubbles, the headgasket is seeping.
