Default The Standard '12 STI Hatch Sound System

Hey guys i keep looking at reviews of the STI and everything sounds great on it but they never talk about the sound system that comes in it. I know considering that it's a STI that wouldn't be relevant to talk about but I'm actually curious to see:
1) What type of sound system is it?
2) How many speakers does it come with standard?
3) What company is the sound system made from? (EX: Pioneer, Bose, etc)
4) I see the upgraded subwoofer and is that really worth the extra money?
5) How big is the subwoofer?
6) Does the standard Sound system sound good without the extra subwoofer??

In my 2011 I'm pretty sure the head unit is made by Clarion. I could be wrong though.

I feel you are better off going aftermarket since that what I feel a majority of people do. But compared to other brands, the sound system in the STi is pretty weak.

Assuming you are talking about the Sport-Tech...

1) What type of sound system is it?
Pioneer AVC-X9310BT driving a 2.0 channel (L & R) speaker system
2) How many speakers does it come with standard?
6 Total: 2 tweeters near the A-pillar, 2 in the front doors, 2 in the back doors.
3) What company is the sound system made from? (EX: Pioneer, Bose, etc)
Pioneer AVC-X9310BT Deck, Front Speakers are Pioneer TS-A1684R's. Rear speakers are standard Subaru stuff.
4) I see the upgraded subwoofer and is that really worth the extra money?
Probably not, Aftermarket will be better bang for the buck. Since it is a fully aftermarket Pioneer deck wired into the car by Subaru, hooking it up with an amp should be easy.
5) How big is the subwoofer?
10" I think. Might be 8". Note that this is an option and not standard.
6) Does the standard Sound system sound good without the extra subwoofer??
The sound system is noticeably better than the base STi system. Depending on the kind of music you listen to, it could use the woofer. I would try it out for yourself, then determine the need of a woofer. Going from a WRX limited to the STi Sport Tech, I am happy with the sound, for now. I will be adding a woofer at a later date, but am content with the sound I have now.

Disclaimer:
I'm a Canadian Subaru owner. Options in Canada, can differ from where you are.
Base model STi will not have Pioneer anything (deck, speakers are Subaru stock). If you are looking at a Base STi, i would say aftermarket is definitely the road to go for sound.

DO NOT under any circumstance get the little POS woofer that mounts under the driver's seat. It just makes sounds like a blown speaker along with seat tingles(good for the ladies?) and no noticeable improvement over the door speakers. I haven't seen the Kicker setup in a car yet but was interested...
