Best bet, go over to the Service & Maintenance Forum in the Technical section and look around in there. There should be PLENTY of threads on this topic...

you are better off pissing in the engine than using the WRONG RP...they are all wrong other than the 5w40
WAY too expensive to use unless you are going to run a 15k OCI...which I would NOT do. Quote:
the 5w40 RP is fine to use....the rest??? no same goes for mobil1......the 0w40(there is only ONE 0w40 mobil 1 so even total idiots and morons---like SO MANY out there DO.... cant **** this one up ![]() ) and the 5w40 diesel truck and suv(there are 2 mobil1 5w40 oils) so idiots and morons CAN **** this one up...and WILL![]() ![]() this isnt really complicated.....but i just had a pm 'conversation' with an idiot who could just NOT understand that.....NO it is NOT the same thing if it is a DIFFERENT product ![]() jesus....it never ceases to amaze me how really totally brainless people are becoming ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes redline is a bit pricy about 114$ a case but its the only ester based oil out there really it will keep your internals looking brand new check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for more info on ester based oil.
http://www.redlineoil.com/Default.aspx Here is a great link talking about good oil for engines http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/..._camwear1.html Last edited by TravisSTi; 04-20-2012 at 04:50 AM. Reason: added link |

Wrong, to get the Uncles attention you need to post this...
"So I use Rotella T6 and change my oil religiously at 3000 miles..,," THAT will piss him off. |

RP is to dam expensive. I run castol syntec 5w30 and may go to the rotella at some point. Wa-Mart is the cheapest place to get oil 28bucks for a 5 qt jug of syntec and the rotella synthetic they didnt have in the just but had singles qts at 6.84.

I have read an awful lot on oil it started to make my head spin a bit.
I use RP in my other vehicles and past vehicles at the grade and spec specified by the owners manual. My OCI have been about 9 months or around 5K miles. Mostly City driving Short Trips. I have been pleased with the performance. Though have no empirical data to back that up. I used to be able to get the RP at reasonable prices at less than $8/qt. But No longer can. I now have a new 2012 Impreza with the 2.0i The manual and the engine oil cap spec 0w-20. It will be a while before I get to doing my own oil changes on this car, b/c I get them free at the dealer for the first 2 years. So i'll save some cash and let them take care of it. I have never heard of the Rotella oil before reading about it here. As I have been browsing the auto-parts retailers in my area for other goodies I have looked at the other brands of oils offered. Two things I noticed were the Starburst was not on the bottles of Rotella and nor was it available in the grade specified by my year and model of Subaru. It is my conclusion that any major brand synthetic at the specs specified will be just fine and provide the best protection. In my case for a 2012 2.0I (NON-Turbo) an image from my owners manual states the specs I should look for: ![]() Since this topic seems prime for flame wars I have put on my asbestos undies so flame on. I used Mobil 1 5w-30 in the past and have had zero issues. I then was able to get 0w-40 for free from work (sort of) and have still had zero issues. Car has about 49,000 miles.
I also await the flames for using Mobil 1. ![]() |
