Default Mercedes Concept Style Coupe, CSC Leaks

Quote:
The first official pictures of the Mercedes Concept Style Coupe (CSC) have leaked on a German website ahead of its official unveiling at next week's Beijing motor show. The CSC previews Mercedes' upcoming CLA saloon, which is tipped to go into production in 2013 priced from around 19,000.

The pictures reveal the CSC sports styling inspired by the larger CLS. It evolves the look of the F800 concept from 2010, which has led the way for Mercedes' latest design direction.

Underneath, the concept is believed to use Mercedes' new MFA platform. This will also underpin the CLA production car, and has been seen so far on the A-class and B-class. Also planned to come off this platform is a small SUV called GLC, and a shooting brake version of the CLA.

The concept is claimed to be 4637mm long, which makes it 47mm longer than the current C-class. However, the next-generation C-class will grow in size, meaning the production CLA will still slot below it in Mercedes' product line-up.

Power for the concept is said to come from the same turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that appeared in the new A25 at the Geneva motor show in March. It produces 208bhp, the same as a Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Bleh!

High beltlines and low (I assume pedestrian-safe) front ends do not an attractive car make. And What the hell is up with the Pepboys seat cover interior?

Disagree. I think the BMW i8 is stunning and very interesting.

While I agree that the beltline is high (and the cls style greenhouse tiny), you can't blame pedestrian safety regulations for a discordant low front end. Said regs actually raise front ends by mandating vertical crush space between the engine and hood (or trickery like pyrotechnic hinges).

I'm not a fan of MB's new corporate grille. Just let it die.

Based on current exchange rates, that's $30k USD. A Merc sedan for $30k is not going to happen. The BMW 1-series in US trim isn't even available with 4 doors, and it STARTS north of $42k.

Besides, didn't VW already make that car and call it the CC?

I actually like this. I hope that it represents the future of the CLS, whether it's a facelift or the next generation's general design. The current one was a step back, in my opinion, and doesn't look nearly as handsome as the original or even this one.

Umm...This is going to be based on the A and B Class cars. They compete with the Audi A3. 30k to start is spot on.

And the 128i, starts at 31,200. Admittedly, they are more like 36k with basic options....but 42k is just being silly.
