Hey guys. I'll keep this short and get to the good stuff quick. I bought the car (2006 STI) in stock from a friendly older man, the original owner, about three years ago. Since then, I've been daily driving the piss out of it, autocrossing it regularly with varying levels of success, and having a grand old time. As usual, the car has slowly evolved. At first, the usual 'Stage 2" stuff, then coilovers and swaybars, then e85, all on the stock turbo. Anyway, after a summer of 326whp/403ftlb, I felt like it was time to take the next logical step.
With the stock motor still holding strong, I decided to park the car for the winter and dig in. Long story short, drop-in pistons, a moderate stock location turbo and upgraded top mount snowballed into new built motor, twin scroll BW 83-75 and a substantial fuel system. I'll keep this post updated with my current setup and this thread updated with pics as I finish up the build and drive the car through the summer. Now, I know I won't hit 600whp on this turbo, or maybe even this motor, but it's a goal for the future. I'd be very happy with 500whp this summer. Engine: - Fresh 2.5L shortblock - Fresh balanced/lightened crankshaft - Manley 99.75mm forged pistons, moly coated - Manley Turbo Tuff I-Beam rods - ACL main/rod bearings - heads ported and rebuilt - BC springs w/ Ti retainers - GSC S2 cams - ARP/MAP H11 head studs - 11mm oil pump (undecided) - Gates racing timing belt - Borg Warner twinscroll 83-75 - Fobia twinscroll headers/uppipe - dual Turbosmart Compgate 40mm external wastegates - Turbosmart Race-port 50mm BOV - GrimmSpeed MBC/BCS hybrid - Treadstone 28 x 10.5 x 4.5in sti core - GrimmSpeed ported intake manifold (rotated) - GrimmSpeed phenolic spacers - GrimmSpeed gasets all around - Custom 2.75in charge piping Drivetrain: - ACT XT-SS Clutch, 6-puck sprung disc - Factory STI 6spd Short Shifter - Torque Solution Tranny Mount - Torque Solution Engine Mounts - Torque Solution Pitch Stop Mount - ACPT Carbon Fiber Driveshaft - Street: BBS w/Hankook R-S3 255/40R17 Fuel: - Five-O 1600cc top feed injectors - DW300 in-tank pump - 3L+ surge tank in engine bay - Aeromotive 1000hp A1000 stealth pump - Aeromotive billet fuel pump speed controller - Aeromotive top feed fuel rails - Aeromotive A1000 -6 FPR - more AN fittings than you can shake a stick at Misc: - omni 4bar MAP sensor (converting to speed density) - odyssey pc680, relocated to trunk - rotated intake manifold (AC delete?) - new ported top feed TGVs - countless other random bits

the turbo might suck in a baby or two lol. if your planning on still driving the car on the street a decent amount id try to keep the A/C unless you dont mind the summer heat. thick phenolic spacers drop the alt as low ans it can go and some people shave down the cover on the alt to give a bit more clearence for the pipe.

One other thing i would see done is putting the fans on the front of the radiator so the can run a larger one like the koyo one.

Well, there was a little bit of a delay on the motor, so I've been just plugging away at getting some other things done. It's always bothered me that the engine bay was a different color/finish than the rest of the car. I felt like it really cheapened the whole thing. Anyway, with everything out of the engine bay, I felt like I should take the opportunity to go the extra mile. With that, I started scrubbing and scuffing and last night we finally got paint down. I good friend of mine is a very well respected body/paint guy around these parts, so a few of us made a day of it and he shot it. I'm really happy with the way that it turned out, despite the fact that most of it will be buried once the motor/turbo/charge piping/etc are back in.

We've got color. Went with PPG and tony went to pick out a chip that matched the 83k mile paint on the car.
![]() More color. Ended up doing about 4 coats. ![]() It was a cold day here in MN but I had the garage cooking to help with quick flash times to minimize the amount of dirt and dust that can find its way onto the paint while it's still wet. ![]() Painted the hinge and and fender bolts. ![]() Started shooting clear. This is when I GTFO of the garage. Got pretty nasty in there. ![]() We've got clear. Fun to see that go down, really pulls the gold and metallic out of the base. Sorry for the flurry picture, I'll snap some better ones now that the garage is clear of overspray. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All things considered, I'm really happy with how it turned out. I don't think I'll be wet sanding or buffing it, as the clear went down really nicely. There are some specks of dirt and dusty here and there, but that's to be expected with an engine bay like this being shot in the garage in a day. Lots of snooks and crannies! |

Also managed to find a daily driver this past week. I've been keeping an eye out for a clean LGT that I liked and one finally popped up. 2005 Legacy 2.5GT LTD, 1-owner Arizona car, never seen winter. Anyway, it's nice to have a smooth, comfortable car to commute in. It came with the 'gangster tint' option, so I'll probably be having it all removed and redone in a more manageable and less suspicious tone.

You sir practically have the same build going on that I do! So far it really is fun knowing that you car will be more your personality and not like every other subaru out there. Good luck with the build!
