i agree, but i guess it's personal. i don't like things cluttered. i know reviewers have said that Impreza is spartan, but as i sat in the car this morning, i recognized that even though it might be a touch bland, it felt very "clean" in terms of the look of how the door panels and dash are set up. if it weren't for the few rattles, i'd give it an A with the soft touch materials and integration of everything, as well as ergonomics.

the only poor ergonomic thing to me are those Trip/Info stalks which really should be buttons somewhere more conveniently located, IMHO.

When I was looking to buy a new car, I had to have AWD and I went from there. My choices became pretty limited because of this and I'm glad I bought an Impreza.

What type of driving do you guys do? I'm mostly rural, so a lot of 55mph long stretches with small sections of city driving.

Well we bought the car in Daytona beach. We live abot 30 mins north and she was getting 29-30 and that driving between 70-80 mph speed limit is 70 on I95. she said if you are doing 55 you will be a bit higher close to 35mpg.
Also her Ins was cheaper then mine . She got the white suede and i really like her car alot Fusion is a nice looking car too.

So, going on an estimate of 23500 otd on the Impreza vs 18500 otd on a used Fusion, I am coming up with about $700 a year difference between the two, excluding fuel costs (can't 100% hammer down either car on that one). So is AWD worth $58.34 a month? Both cars will need roof racks and winter tires, so those costs are mostly irrelevant.

This is figured on a special APR from Subaru vs about what the bank will give me. If I can get a better APR through the dealer on a used Fusion, might widen the gap more.

is your pricing set in stone with your order? i went to your original post and found you are talking about a Premium (not sport) with all weather. without having the detailed numbers in front of me, at least in my area, that should come in at about $20.5k before TTL. your estimate of OTD is more than i paid for my Limited model in what i consider a fairly high tax area (SF Bay Area, CA).

I can appreciate where you're coming from. I would have bought used if the used car market wasn't so overpriced right now. If you can get a car that takes care of your basic needs, you won't love it but you won't hate it, at a reasonable price, it's worth considering.

I am $1k underwater on my current car, and that is reflected in both prices. Although, come to think of it, maybe it was $22.5k otd on the Subaru. I would have to go double check. So if I'm off, it's $41 a month difference.

Yep. I need an 8 year to 10 year car, and I need to get rid of my unreliable gas guzzling SUV. And given my current payments, the Subaru comes out annually (payments+insurance+fuel) to be almost exactly the same as the current SUV. Literally only $2 more a year.

people die in snow with/without AWD.

With AWD - you feel invincible... but that could get you killed and that's why the driver manual states driving slow even with AWD.

Without AWD - you can get stuck in the snow and waiting for rescue. On the opposite side, one could be frozen to death.

I'd go for Impreza. I'd rather die with pride.... Subaru rules.

OK, SZR, we've tried to play nice, but if you don't buy the Impreza, we're going to have to go all Ted Nugent on your ass.

Funny, I used to work for his brother. Or was that Seeger's... Can never remember which.

The Subaru is winning on practicality. Going to drive a 2010 Fusion, but still leaning to the Subaru. Focus is out of the running.

So my fiancÚ sent a picture of a classified ad for a 2008 STI. Asked if it was in the budget, then said I should buy that instead.

All I could say is "I love you".

Ford has taken the Focus in the wrong direction imo. Its become a gadget-laden wanna be midsize semi-luxo car.
I had an 02 and loved it. I've wanted a first generation focus rs since I saw the first oics. Too bad Ford doesnt sell it in the US.

I should add that although its classified as a compact, like the Impreza, I consider them both to be midsized. My new Impreza is quite large compared to older Legacy's. The focus is large compared to older compacts as well.
I was considering a Fiesta but they wanted way too much for one and the rear seat doesnt fold all the way down. Every time I see a Fiesta I'm relieved that I'm in an Impreza.

Car break down: $21,136.00 for the car as configured ($500 off sticker)
$190 Documentation
$1279.56 Sales Tax
$15.00 Title
$8 Plate transfer

Grand Total: $22,628.56 (rough estimate)

Trade in estimate: $6,500
Currently owe: $8,130

I have more money in the bank to drop on it though, so that isn't the final on the currently owe. I should be about $7,500 on what I owe when I take it in.

Dealers around here weren't bargaining on price. They didn't need to.

yep. just checking. markets vary considerably, but i just wanted to make sure you were getting a fair market price. my car was getting close to 1800 below sticker in the SF Bay Area. and i know others paid even less than i did. but markets vary...

I may add a couple of last minute things to that price, such as the moldings on the side or an auto-dimming mirror. Plus I'll need to go get it tinted ASAP, and depending on how I feel, I could swap in the Kenwood I'm taking out of my trade-in.

if you decide before the car hits port, you'll save on installation fees and hopefully can negotiate those items for invoice pricing.

i actually had a generous dealer who sold me those same items (homelink mirror and side moldings) at cost. the latter was easy to install, the former, a bit of a pain (you can see my experiences shared elsewhere and others have confirmed my frustration with the mirror install -- doable, but know what you're getting into)

I read that mirror install thread, and I think I'm going to skip doing that one myself. I'll probably swing by Saturday and talk about adding them, somewhere between getting my fiance to the resort to buy her ski pass and fixing her Trailblazer (misfire on cylinder 3, thinking bad coil).
