If I stay out of boost I average 27. That being said, I'm happy with 24.5 and getting into it now and again.

When your not afraid of living in the countryside with 1/2mile dirt road to your house that turns into a mud bog anytime we get rain.

you turn traction control off (VDC green) to spin all 4 tires and get it sideways in the rain on the way to work

It all depends on how you drive, highway or no highway, tune, tires, ect, boost or no boost lol. That being said I average 24.5ish and I give her the beans on the on ramp (drag strip) to work haha

Most of my highway driving is on trips, not work, so I can relax. On my way home from school this spring (240mi) I drove 55 on cruise the whole way with fuel from a rural station. I emptied the rest of my tank (over 1/4) with driving around my town and when I calculated it, I still got just over 28mpg. That's with a fridge, microwave, tube TV, and tons of clothes in the back. I wish I'd filled up sooner to see what it was with just highway driving.

...When you teach your girlfriend to drive stick on the "other" car.

I buy wholesale for a large dealership. They never really bought any subarus until I started. No one really knew anything about them. We typically buy cars with 80-135k miles on them so they are no spring chickens.

Point of the story is when we buy subies and send to the reconditioning center they typically have 1/3 of the cost to recondition them for retail than our average car.

I believe I read on Edmonds.com that subarus are the number 1 hated car by mechanics. They can't make any money off them.

They are machines they are gonna break some before others like anything else. My point is that it's fewer and farther between than the average vehicle.

This thread is going OT real fast... There are tons of threads on mpg... My bugeye used to get 31mpg on the hwy b4 the 6spd. Because of the added weight, mpg dropped to 27-28 mpg hwy...

Back on topic:

... when you're driving on the highway 5 mph faster than the speed limit, and some car/person will slow down and stare at the brembos blocking traffic in the left lane until you slow down so they leave you alone.
... when you can make it uphill a snowed in driveway when a snowplow can't.
... when your friends know that you pulled up just by the sound of the exhaust.
... when local cops always have a reason to pull you over.
... when your car is more important than your girl.
... when you spend more on your car than some peoples rent.

I'm confused. If the recon is 1/3 of the average car, than it's less than the avg car.

When you don't get pulled over by local police even though your car sounds beastly.

Instead of a glare they chunk up a wave

Right. I believe the argument being made is that they hold up better than the average car, and thus need less reconditioning work to be sold.

^^I didn't know AWD was better at stopping in the rain than FWD or RWD!

When removing foglights is just as common as adding more.

Gotcha, that went right over my head. (Which is pretty bad because I was in the remarketing industry for a few years...
