Default Slipping Clutch?

I believe i am having some clutch issues. If i am hard on the throttle on my car the rpms shoot up but the speed does not. For intance if i am in 4th gear, around 2500 rpm and floor it, i do not notice torque like i used to, and the rpms shoot up pretty high and the speed does not increase. Going up hills i notice the same situation happening, no torque, rpms increase and speed does not. When i started the car today i felt it slip and saw a small cloud of smoke behind me. I am almost certain that my clutch is bad, 122,xxx on the original. i was just hoping that this is not anything else, that might be more serious.

At 122k its probably not a bad idea to replace it and get it out of the way. I would have to agree with you and say it is clutch slip because when I pulled mine at 118 it looked completely hammered from the original owner.

Your clutch is done. A double check measure is at a stop, put the car in 5th gear and try to take off. If you can....your clutch is done.

I figured, new clutch and flywheel is on the way, hopefully i can make it up the hill to college until it arrives, thanks for the info guys.

Am i taking any serious risks by driving it while its slipping? I can borrow a car if needed because i really can't afford to have anything else break as a result.
