Default Removing Heat Shields?

Are there any negative effects from removing the heat shields around the exhaust?
Why are they there anyway?

rip em off... and the heat from the exhaust pipe "may"
wreak havoc w/your interior...

heating things up a bit can = melted carpet and/or worse

not saying it "will" happen... but that's what they do.
each shield has a "liner" in it as well... to help keep heat
from dissapating into the car.... the bottom shields are
just to protect the piping from rocks, damage, etc.

*shrug*

if ya wanna remove em... you can give it a try...

mine are rattling like hell at 3K decel... They will be coming off this weekend. I'm not going to remove the big sheild that is on the bottom of the car though. just the one that is supposed to "protect from rocks" yet always manages to fill up with them.
