Default South Mountain Run 5/2/12

A couple of us are planning a South Mountain run tomorrow evening. The park gates close at 6pm, but as long as you're inside before that, you can run around until after dark. I heard the run up to the top is a lot of fun, so we're going to give it a try. Plus I heard there's a Honda club that runs up there.

If anyone wants to join, feel free to come on out. From the east side, we're meeting at Arizona Mills mall parking lot at the 60 and Baseline at approximately 5pm. From there, we're headed straight down Baseline to Central, then south on Central where you run into the park entrance. I think there's a parking lot about half way up that's usually empty. We'll probably use that to chill at.

Hopefully we'll see you out there!

Why not meet at Scorpion Gulch? It's practically in the park itself.... And I'll probably be there if I don't have too much homework.

You think we'll get booted?

...Ok, so what's the word? Fry's or Scorpion Gulch?

In the past the park rangers have blocked the road and kicked everyone out when there was a group run.

Brian, my cell screen took a s**t on me, so I've got no phone until tomorrow. I'm gonna find a spot around there to feed the kids first. I'll just see you guys at Fry's at 6.

greetings, I have not posted in a while. I'm actually a broadcast engineer who drives an STI that goes up to South Mountain a lot to service 3 of the FM transmitter sites at the top. Please, please be careful and do not go fast on the road up and down. There's a lot of people who ride their bikes, jog, walk ride on skateboards and the looky loos that drive all over the road. The park is closed at 7 to go up and until the cutbacks hit the park they would chase you out. I actually came down last night at 9PM after working and there was only one car parked at one of the pull outs but you never know who is on a bike or walking and going around the curves some do not have lights on or reflective clothes. I have been going up to the top of South Mountain for over a decade and I have had some close calls with all the above. Yes I drive slow all the time. I actually drove down one morning at 3AM with a bunch of TV and other FM engineers and one of theTV engineers almost hit a guy on his bike in the middle of the road with no light on his bike or reflective vest on. We all got out of our vehicles to check on him and he was not hurt. I would strongly suggest not driving on this if you are going to drive fast.

We were very careful and we took the time to chill out at the bottom and shoot the s**t with the park rangers. Looking forward to making this run again.

Great pics. Thanks man. I've got some video, but I've got to edit it. There's a lot of video of us just getting there, then there's a bunch of us waiting behind cars. I'll put it together here in a day or two and post it. Can't wait to make this run again... I'm thinking after 9pm though. >
