Default Md State Inspection

Just got a used Scion FRS in VA and need to do MD state inspection. I think the car has 20% tint. Anyone know anywhere I can go that isnt anal about window tint for MD inspection?

Thanks.

You can probably buy one from an inspector for the right amount.

yeah, you're only option is going to be an illegal one. I'm an inspector, but I can't help you passing something that doesnt pass.

Some inspection items are subjective, tint isnt one of them.

Just take it off and get it retinted. Its only a coupe. Will probably cost a lot less than the $200-$300 that most shady stations charge you for a certificate.

I'm thinking about doing 35% in the front windows. Leave the rest 20%. Does that pass? ... The car is small inside and 20% is really dark all around...

the only tint that will pass on any of the windows is 50%.

Take it off, get it inspected, get it retinted how you want

Stick 35% on the window and check your light transmittance...it will be in the neighborhood of 30%.

truth. Untinted glass has about 70% light transmittance. Slap 50% on there and tada, you have 35%

They dont measure the film by itself, they measure the windows wit the film applied.

50% tint = 35% light transmittance
35% tint = 25% light transmittance
20% tint = 14% light transmittance.

It can vary +/- 3% or so but you get the idea.

I get a lot of ticked people who think 35% tint should pass, but it never does.

NBD to get it removed then retinted. Carlos will do the twins for $100, add $10 for a windshield strip. I've been stared at by cops with my 35% tint, but none have pulled me over for it specifically or mentioned it during other traffic stops.

like everyone said just take off the tint, then pay to get it tinted again how you like. It's probably going to be cheaper that way then trying to find someone who will pass you. Its not like back in the day, inspectors take a lot more risk now-a-days to pass and unpassable car.
