Ok so just bought my first subie. Has a swapped motor from an 2007 Sti ej25. And honestly I don't know what to look out for? PO told me to use the oem Wrx filter and something about Rottila oil(spell). Now just trying to figure out some maintenance things to do an look out for. What about some pops every now and then in the steering. Sounds like axles. Is this hard to change on these? Any thing would help. Just read so much back and forth banter makes my head spin.
Also my cars steering goes out after high boost is hit. Then starts to work again? Ideas? Thoughts?

Pops? Over bumps, while turning?
Tighten p/s belt a little bit if its not dry. If it looks dry replace it. Might be slipping a bit from acceleration.

Ok Ty. But yeah the noise is from turning while stationary. So that's why I'm thinking axles.

probably not the cv axles. Those make noise while the car is moving when they are bad. It could be the strut bearings. I would try tightening the PS belt first, or replacing the belt all together. That's cheaper than new struts / bearings. Can you record some sound of it happening?
