Default Possible Boost Leak?

I have the 03' wrx, and a friend is telling me I've got a boost leak somewhere and I'm not hitting target boost.

Throughout the gears I'm hitting about .06 mPa and holding there until 6k, when it drops off (not sure where it drops off to off the top of my head)

This guy is a Nissan A-Hole, so I'm taking what he says with a grain of salt. As far as I can tell, it pulls just as hard as any other stock WRX.

By Nissan A-Hole, I mean he drives a TT 300ZX and thinks he's better than just about any car on the road.

Turbo is still spooling, and making great power. I really hope it's not blown.

Well according to http://www.convertit.com/Go/ConvertI.../Converter.ASP

.06 mPa = 8.70226426381255E-09 Which DOES seem a little low.

Yeah, I hold pretty steady at .06mPa on my factory gauge, which according to that site is 8-9 psi

And at about 6k the boost drops off a little bit.

Yep thats not good. I hit 13-14PSI (around there... try not to stare at my boost gauge ) in 3rd at WOT... so something's not right..

Have you ever taken your IC off? Any rips/leaks from the hoses? BOV sealed properly?
Do you have an exhaust leak at the DP? UP?

Go check the hose from your IC to the turbo inlet. Make sure there aren't any rips or leaks.

I have a pulled muscle in my back, so I won't be able to look at it anytime soon.

The car/engine is stock minus an Injen Intake I threw on there via free (love the way the turbo sounds)

I'll try to run out on my break right now and have a quick look without hurting myself :P

Well I couldn't get a really good look at it -- I'm a former Honda guy so it'd be nice to have someone who knows more of what they're looking at help me out as well.

like stated above most likely your factory BCS is toast. Also make sure your turbo vac lines are all in the right places. Its been so long since i messed around with restrictor pill problems but I think that affects boost too, just cant remember if it overboosts or underboosts.

How much/where can I get an OEM BCS for, and where is it located under the hood? I don't have a lot of money to shell out at the moment trying random things :P

any WRX. Break window, pop hood, yank, voila!

no, but seriously, make a WTB thread here or national. Im sure someone upgraded theirs and had the OEM one lying around.

OR if you think you are going to mod your car in the future you could just upgrade to a Prodrive BCS. Pay a little more now but not have failure in the future. (I had to do this) Just an idea...but if you cant drop a ton of cash im sure you could swoop a used one for dirt cheap. You just dont know if the one you bought is faulty though, so you could end up in the same boat as you are now. Up to you

It sounds like the usual problem with a missing restrictor pill. Here's where it should be. You can squeeze the vacuum line and feel it in there.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1190530

If it's your bcs then I'd get another stocker. The Prodrive/GM variants function slightly differently than the stocker and you have to be tuned for it or you'll see all kinds of erratic boost levels.

Well I tried to get a picture of it today, and compared to that diagram shown earlier in the thread... something seems off. The T fitting is sitting differently, so that suddenly shows a bit of concern -- dunno if it means anything or not.

The lines are pretty stiff and I couldn't really tell if it was in there or not.

Here's a crappy cell phone picture

Well I've got the T Fitting and a new vacuum line with what the dealership REFUSED to call a restrictor pill (They had no idea what it was) and called it an orifice.

Should be here on Thursday, hopefully. Cheap fix, too! Kind of a long wait for ordering parts from a dealership -- I'm used to the local Honda 'ship getting things to me the next day

Anyways, I'll report back after things are swapped out, and hopefully I'll be hitting target boost!

That's awesome so just with that new t setup it helped a lot huh? Stock BOV? Turbo inlet hoses? I'm trying to find my leak right now... only hitting 12-13 psi and I have Stage 1 COBB so should be closer to 15 I think...

Default Similar problems..

I have a similar problem happening and have been chasing it for about 2 months now. I have replaced the turbo inlet, replaced a bunch of vacuum lines and put on a Grimmspeed EBS. Still only hitting 7-8 pounds of boost. The guy I am working with/tuning the car said there is a for sure leak somewhere in the system. i can't figure it out for the life of me though :/
