Default Where to go for a built motor?

I've been wanting a much higher redline for quite a while, and given how much oil consumption I discovered last weekend, I think I'll be doing this sooner rather than later.

I'm looking for a shop that can build + install + tune, so there won't be finger-pointing if anything goes wrong. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've seen some of the engines Outback Automotive (now known as InFront Automotive) have built and they do some good work. Specifically, one comes to mind. It's worth taking a drive up to Auburn to see the owners personal car that he originally built for a customer. It's one of if not the best looking engine bays I've ever seen. It's a custom color grey 06 STi for reference.

The other thing to consider is that they're really the only shop in the state that can do the full build, install, and tune.

Thanks for the reminder - they did a header and clutch for me a while back.

InFront, possibly R&H, and there is also PIA in tacoma.

I don't really know what R&H is up to these days, they aren't a sponsor here anymore.. I think staff changed up some. But they do have a dyno IIRC, though their reviews are hit or miss. I was a miss for my particular case, but that was 2+ maybe 3yrs ago. Their shop does look busy though when I drive by.

I would say every shop has their shortcomings. I've done work with outfront, R&H, MPS, and the defunct VTR. With the exception of MPS, all have had issues where I needed to return for follow-up... It's worse when these places were booked 2-3weeks out.

Lately, I've been going to Ishii Motorsports in Bellevue. They don't do tunes, but could do anything else I believe. Their fault is being too damn thorough, reminding me about missing bolts, and heatshields each and every damn time I go there.

Was R&H called Kito a few years ago?

Also, does anyone know where MPS's staff went to? I read that Dom is at TiC now, but I wonder about the rest of the crew.

I know they are in Oregon but you should look into horizontal motorsports. They tune, install, and build.

I believe they (Kito and R&H) merged, and renamed to R&H. It's been a couple years now, and they're dead to me anyways. Someone highly regarded I recall had left to do his own stuff up in Bothell or something at some point later, I think he was their tuner (user = JRach)... Someone replaced him. That is a vague memory on my part though... I think it was covered in these forums though if you want to search on their history...

Thumbs up Pia

I have had great performance and quality service for over 20 years from PIA. You might find a better price but you won't find a better motor, tune or service.

There is a reason the cars you see on the track have PIA stickers on them!

Give them a call before you decide.

PIA is on the short-list, for sure.
