Actually there is no problem.. We kinda agree. I dont think they should have a "halo car" and I never said they should. I wouldn't expect them to take on the vette and gtr yet. I simply said throw the v8 in the next genesis coupe and keep it cheap, even if that means cutting into their current margins... No big deal

In other news... anyone seen these new 2015 mustang renderings?

Is the lower image a photochop of the MKZ back end? It looks fantastic, I would buy that in a heartbeat!

I see they are taking a page from the Camaro design books.

Trying to make the greenhouse as small as possible...The more these cars look like hot wheels cars, the less I like them.

The mustang has always had a better interior usability and space than the Camaro. I hope they do not chase this stupid raising belt line thing GM has been doing.

Quad tips are the new dual exhaust.

Who's going to be first to release a car with 6 tips?

Good question. It would have to be a car company that would want to be noticed. Luxury cars tend to have those integrated custom exhaust tips. So they are all out. It would need to be a car company with nothing to lose and everything to gain from the look at me standpoint. It will also be expensive as it will be a one off muffler.

I would say it will be either Hyundia or Geely

Genesis w/a v8 would be pretty damn cool. Shame that car isn't marketed correctly.

These are funny renderings/chops.

Rear...think EVOS concept. Front...think aggressive Fusion with Mustang goodness.

So a rear like this?

That goes against some of the reports from a few months ago about the louvered tail-lights etc. But I guess it would fit if there's a fastback shape coming for the Mustang. Or do you mean the rear from the view of the front of the car? And if the front is a more aggressive '13 Fusion front, then I'm all good with that.

Yes, but instead of horizontal, they're vertical. And with only 3 vertical sections, like the current 2013 taillights. Here's the description from a guy who claims to have seen it in person:

Quote:
There was three segments in each of the tail lights. (Traditional Mustang). Except each segment was louvered over the next. I reached in and grabbed one of the louvers. They are three dimensional and you can put your fingers inside the louvers (pretty deep). I had my fingers inside the louver and my thumb outside the louver and my palm was wrapped around the curved part. The outside of the louvers are rounded and have the appearance of the middle section of a plastic water bottle. The inside of the louvers are flat. The entire light is red, with no white at all.

These were probably the coolest tail lights I have ever seen.

If:

1) There's no Ecoboost V6 (unlikely)
2) The n/a V6 doesn't get a considerable power bump
3) The Ecoboost 4-cylinder costs too much

I'll probably end up picking up a 2011-2012 GT, trading my car in and avoiding a car payment. This would be the smart thing to do since I will also be house shopping at that time. But who said I was smart?

On a Mustang forum. I think the thread has been deleted by now but the poster said he was invited to a "viewing" of the 2015 Mustang; like a survey. It was a group of people and they were paid for it, like a couple hundred dollars, since it was basically doing Ford a favor. They showed them the car, then surveyed them about different things. One asked, "Would you be willing to pay $8,000 more for the GT (5.0 V8) over an EcoBoost 4-cylinder model?" The thread went on at some length and everything sounded credible. I'll see if I can find it.

I found that posted on Jalopnik and it referenced a thread on allfordmustangs.com. Thread definitely appears to have been deleted.

Also, my newest autoweek had a first drive of the 2015 GTI with pics of the whole damn thing. It is supposed to be out in the same time frame as the mustang. It sure would be nice if it could get the same coverage.

The Ecoboost four banger is going to be an abortion in the USDM. Mark my words.

2.2 ecoboost with 300+ hp and light front. Don't see much wrong with that combo.

I was against it at first, but the more I think about it, the more I think it could work. Current base V6 is 3,500lbs. If they can drop it 200lbs to 3,300 and put in a 300-310bhp 4-cyl EcoBoost, that could be a very fun car once the aftermarket gets to it. The Focus ST already has a healthy aftermarket so it won't take too long for that to happen with the Mustang. It would make it even more appealing if they could name it "SVO", but the jury is still out on that one. They should name it that if they plan on charging more for it than the N/A V6 model.

Neither do I, but that's ignoring the usual demographic that buys these cars. I can only imagine Ford thinks they can compete with the turbocharged four banger Genesis with the Ecoboost?

Doubtful.

SVO was the predecessor to what became SVT. That being said, an SVO is analogous to an STi(the actual car). It wouldn't make much sense to resuscitate a nameplate for a now defunct division within Ford. Maybe they could make it a stripper model and starting using the "LX" moniker again.

While not directly analogous to Ford, in the era of 4-door Chargers, a new luxo-sedan GNX, SS as a model name, etc. I don't think anything can be ruled out. I agree it's probably less likely than "Ecoboost" or "LX" or something, but it could happen. It'd certainly be interesting if the Ecoboost 4 comes and then later they do a limited Bullitt/Mach 1-style special edition SVO with uprated suspension/brakes compared to the base model (also unlikely, but it would be cool).
