Default Mercedies 2017 new dash

You think one 12.3-inch (diagonal) screen is big? The E-Class has two, side by side, both under a single glass pane so it looks like one superscreen. The left side, behind the steering wheel, functions as a virtual instrument cluster; the right side acts as the display for the COMAND Online infotainment system. Each screen has a resolution of 1920 by 720 pixels, with a quad-core processor and 17 gigabytes of memory devoted to graphics.

Along with the screen comes the industry’s first application of steering-wheel mounted touchpads. These add another layer of control redundancy, allowing the driver to operate COMAND with finger swipes while keeping hands on the wheel. That’s in addition to the centre console-mounted touchpad first seen on the 2015 C-Class, or the more established input options of voice control or the original twist-and-push COMAND controller.

But the control-input options do not include touch screen. Mercedes believes that, in bigger cars, the “buttons” on a centrally mounted touch screen are too far from the driver to be ergonomically sound. “We researched touch screen, but we want the driver’s hands on the wheel,” user-interface designer Patrick Zimmer said.
...

That's nice and all, but the bezels are still too damn thick!

Dunno, I'd take the retractable popup screen that's in the A6/A7 any day over this. It makes the dash look so high. My biggest problem with the old MB setup was the bezel was at least an inch and a half all around...

So glad they got rid of the ipad jammed into the dash. That looks really nice.

Those 4 central vents on the dash really bother me.

No way I'd drive one even if it was given to me.

Wait until you guys see the base model's dash. Makes the ATS look acceptable.

No kidding. You can forgive that in a Mazda 3 but in a luxury car it just looked out of place to have what appeared to be a 3rd party accessory tacked on to the middle of the dash.

Yes, just looked at the RS7 pics on Audi site - I would keep it closed 99% of the time, assuming you could still make music and climate changes without having the thing up. I find screens only useful for Navi - I like to just see the map and keep the directions off - maybe 5 times a year. 3 of those 5 times, my GF just plugs it into her phone and navigates me, as it's easier than entering it into the car navi, letter by letter.

I like what Audi is doing with the large LCD in front of the driver as in the TT.

I hate LCD's for the guage cluster. I just want real physical gauges.

A huge auxiliary nav/entertainment display I'm totally down with.

It's really, really cool in person. I must have spent 10 minutes just playing around with the infotainment system when I was at the Audi dealership. Instead of just retracting in, it folds down, then retracts in horizontally.

I can't lie, Audi still makes some of the best interiors in the business.

Bwahaha that is really f'ing terrible. And I'm actually a fan of MB these days. Who signed off on that atrocity? I mean I get that you want to incentivize people to go for higher trim levels but that is not how you do it.

+1 on being a fan and on the horror of that base dash. Coming to a European taxi near you.

It's also going to be phased in on the C-Class: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...mage=100497895

I'll bet there will be lots of people who will miss the tacked-on iPad look when this rolls out. Hopefully the production version will integrate this a bit more seamlessly; even with that iPad the current C center stack flows gracefully.
