Default Known Clear Coat Issues on 2005 STi?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at an 05 STi which has some clear coat damage on the wing (it's chipping). Is this a common problem with the wings or paint?

If this isn't common, should I assume he had a clear coat put on by a paint shop? I've always heard that those are cheap and short lived - usually end up looking like this after a couple years...have you guys heard the same thing?

Thanks in advance guys!

Clear coat damage results from paint neglection, which is also common depending on the owner.

If it did happen to be resprayed, then it just depends on the shop that resprayed it and the quality of their prep work and the durability of the paint chemicals they were using.

Is there any way to tell if he had it resprayed?

He said he didn't but I'd like to make sure somehow...if possible. I'd hate to buy a car which will be covered in a chipping clear coat in a year.

Any advice? Steer clear? Don't worry?

there are transparent stickers under the top fin of the wing. they cover some screws i think.
see if these stickers are still there, and still transparent/clear. look for tape marks around them too i guess.
