Maybe I should clarify the instructions a bit more. This seems like a common confusion point. You're programming the car. You don't need the key at all. Write down the code and leave the key in the house.

I have a 2011 key for someone. I just got it from ebay today. It was supposed to be a 2009, but they didn't my know their crap. I figured someone will want it here rather than return it. It has the 8 digit code, it should work.
I'm not sure if this is ok to post here, but oh well. Make me an offer. I paid 25 so I at least want that. I'm in slc utah if you want to pick it up. Pm me if you want it.

Edit: sold

I would not recommend buying "uncut" keys for a couple reasons..

1.)Some guy is making money putting together old keys with new blades
2.)You don't know what you are getting. The ebay seller will mix and match blades, he'll take a '12 Impreza remote and put it into that case with the new blade for your 2011 WRX, because the FCCID is the same he assumes it will work, but we know that doesn't work!!

As long as numbnuts' selling keys on EBay don't know anything about what they are selling, all you can do to be sure you are getting the right part, is to buy used and verify the FCCID and the bladetype both match what you need.

Unfortunately I don't have any spare springs. Unfortunately I think that might be a tough one to find.

It's a longshot but maybe try a spring from a clicky pen or pencil. They might have what you need. Xluben any ETA on the housing?

Thanks for the Legacy key, just went and paired it with my car. Now just waiting on Xluben to get a new batch of the flip housings.

Has anyone had any problems with laser cutting the blank that comes with the flip key? The Legacy key I received was used and I don't have a Dremel here to modify the valet key.

I got my dremel at pep boys about 5 years ago for about 25 bucks (very low powered). I went to home depot and purchased a cutting wheel kit for about 20, and that worked well. Took me a little while (and two cutting wheels), but it can be done.

If you are a DIY person, a Dremel is a great tool to have. I use mine ALL the time. I went with the 3000, I think it was like $69... Came with a fairly stocked and versatile kit, including a mini router/ circle cutter that came in handy making my own speaker spacers. I didn't have to buy another accessory for almost a year. My .02...

Flip Key's are in transit to me, but that can take a while. Hopefully sometime soon though.

I have a cordless Dremel. I like it because it is very portable and easy to maneuver. I don't like it because I have to keep the battery charged and it doesn't last more than 10-15 minutes of continuous, strenuous use. Fortunately with a high strength cutoff wheel, this shouldn't take nearly that long, and shouldn't be anywhere near using up a blade.

I don't think that will do the remote functions. So for someone like me who just carries my WRX key and my WRX remote, it wouldn't help at all. I would replace the WRX key with a big old "Keyport" (with only 1 key in it), and I'd still have to carry the remote.

If someone wants to carry all your keys and your remote, this DIY is pretty handy. I never got around to it since I live in an apartment and I'm pretty sure they don't want me mutilating the keys.

agreed. Although Keyport is a good thing to have to get rid of all you house keys that jab you in your pocket. definatly thinking of getting one for that reason.

Thanks for the update on the flip housings.

It's not the size that bothers me.

Honestly, I think the key port looks like one of those oversized nail files you get with the "men's grooming kit" as an awkward present from a grandparent. I like a factory look. This flip key mod provides that, and the key port does not. I have garage door openers, and I have a keypad lock on my front door, so I don't carry extra keys. The key port is of no use to me.

OK, they're two different things. One may be better for some people, the other one better for other people. Time to move on.

Good news is that I have more flip key shells! Shipping some out tomorrow!
