LOL @ this.
Some people shouldn't reproduce.

Also, mine has a bit of a wiggle as well, so it's common with all flip key shells. Xluben, youre right: It's just the gap b/w the front and back covers that's causing the blade and mechanism to wiggle a bit.

So I was thinking about cutting the rubber off of my valet key so it would fit into my wallet and could act as a backup. But I guess this wouldn't be feasible since they have that white anti-theft part inside the rubber eh?

You could do it, and maybe just wrap tape around it to be safe, but no, it will not be perfectly flat like a plain metal key. Although if you just want it in case you lock your keys in your car, then you could remove the transponder and it would still unlock the doors.

I actually realized that my car has an aftermarket alarm (which is disconnected and I'm not sure how to connect it again... Kind of annoying...) but it has my valet key under the dash in a little box, which is for the remote start, I'm assuming. You could always try something like that... Then you wouldn't ever need a transponder. Good/bad.

Yeah, you can cut the transponder out of the key and secure it under the dash, in the steering column area, and then put the plain metal key in your wallet. Then if you do lose your keys you should still be able to start the car too!

Maybe I'll pry open my stock keys and get those codes, then reprogram all of the keys. I'm just scared I'll end up messing it up and all three keys won't work, then will have to resort to the dealership...

the programming part is actually pretty easy - the instructions, however, make it look difficult.
just take your time to read the instructions before you get started.

Cheers Ben!
I have both the flip key and also kept a legacy all in one key. Lucky for me, the locksmith I went too just got their laser cutting machine so I got both keys cut for $35 as 'training'.

Definitely do some searching around for locksmiths. I found a retired one that will do it for $12!

I THINK i did it correctly, I mean I got the lock/unlock plus beep confirmation from the car, and I did this twice. :S

On a brighter note, I was able to get my local Subaru dealer to cut the key for free!!!

Looks like I have a bum remote, even though I bought it brand new from SubaruGeniuneParts. I tried reprogramming all my remotes, the stock ones still work but the new Legacy remote is still not doing anything. If all fails I'll have to look for a new key.... and I can't even return this one because it's an opened electronic part!

I would certainly contact them. That does not seem right if it came DOA.

They say that the Legacy key is not meant for the WRX, hence they cannot provide warranty for the electronic part. I also can't return it as the guy at Chaplins said that it's been opened and not used on the correct car....

Find a Legacy and try to program it on that.

What part no did you buy, and what FCC ID to confirm. Does the Canada model have TPMS? I thought it didn't in the past but not sure about 2012.

Not sure if we have others in Canada with 2011/12 that have done this?

You have to think outside the box a little bit. Use my DIY to get yourself working Legacy keys, then buy the shells from Xluben and swap to the flip key.

If you like I could set you up with all the right parts for a Legacy keyless unit and a couple of Legacy keys PM me if interested. You can DIY this too that is why I wrote the DIY on 3gWRX, just buy the parts new as it is difficult to get the right parts used if you don't know exactly what to look for many have been burned on EBay.

Part number 57497AJ10A, FCC ID CWTWB1U811.
It doesn't look like the Canadian models have it, I just checked my owner's manual and it says TMPS (US-models). I still don't get why we don't get all these features! No HID's either!

Are you sure you're using the lock/unlock unit on the DOOR to program, and not the remote itself? That's been a common mistake throughout this thread.

I'm pretty sure I am programming it correctly, using the door lock/unlock button. I've gotten confirmation from the car with the lock/unlock sequence plus beep when I finished programming a code.

I'll look for a new battery today, and pay a visit to the dealership tomorrow. Parts guy said he'll help me troubleshoot...

^^That sounds right, don't think there should be an issue with Canadian car, would be nice if someone with a 2011/12 could confirm.

When you program the remote, the lock/unlock sequence at the end is the confirmation, it will beep either way, but if you don't get the lock/unlock it failed. You'll know you are doing it right when you have tried 4 times and un-programmed your other remotes ;-)

Also be patient, the remote sometimes doesn't work the first couple presses for whatever reason, then it starts working. Make sure to turn the ignition off and remove the key before you try the successfully programmed remote.

If you have done all that you might just have a bad remote. I might be inclined to tell the dealer it didn't work on your "Legacy" and see if they will then take it back. Get a VIN from a local or grab one from EBay if they ask.
