When I programmed mine, it didn't do anything either. I started mashing on the buttons after, just pushing them randomly out of frustration. Suddenly, it started working..... so, maybe just push the buttons more?

UPDATE: i went to the dealership and they couldnt program them either....i think the keyless unit is broken and when they tested the remote it made a beep noise so the remote works.

I have a 2011 STI with the CWTWB1U819 FCC ID.
I already bought the flip case from xluben.
Do I need a legacy key with the CWTWB1U819 ID only or can I buy one that has either the CWTWB1U811 or the CWTWB1U819 FCC ID?

Thanks

I would recommend you stop looking at FCC ID and buy the key with the part number in the first post from the dealer.

Thanks Xluben, Just want to make sure that the part number is correct with my FCC ID. If that does not matter then great.

Got everything in last week. Thanks to all the directions it was a breeze. Programming was perfect the first time. Im curious who will say anything at the dealership next time I take it in. Thanks for the great write up.
Any one find a nice stick logo to put on this?

@xluben, I cut the groove for the pin too deep in my donor key. Any advice? I was thinking maybe some type of glue. It isn't super wobbly however it would be enough to work free eventually. If nothing else I'll cut up my other spare key.

That is unfortunate. I don't know if there's any easy fix. You could try JB Weld and then recut or even JB Weld it into the housing. I don't know how well either would work.

yeah, JB Weld should do the trick. fill the gap completely and then file out the needed space.

alright!!! just got done with my flip key conversion and programmed it in with no problem! i got the legacy key off of ebay for $18 shipped, flip key housing was $29 shipped. called several lock smiths yesterday and was quoted $80-$120 to cut the key. tried to explain what i was doing and that i had all the parts, they just needed to laser cut it. finally got a guy that said no problem, he will laser cut it for $25. i said deal. will get it done today or monday.

FYI: Parts.com has the legacy key for 4 dollars cheaper than Subarugenuineparts.com but shipping and handling bring it up to being only about 30 cents cheaper.

HERE

Alrighty. Thanks guys. I'm gonna attempt to JB weld the key and cut another slot for the pin. If that doesn't work I'm gonna just JB weld it into the housing.

My parts guy in Dallas says you can now buy just the inside "guts" of the key for $45ish.. No need to buy a complete key and alot cheaper. That is if you cant score one from e-bay.

Any info on part number? That would be a huge difference for people doing this mod!

When i did my Legacy key for my STI i just went to the Dealer and got it for 100. got it the next day. went to a lock smith and got it cut for 35. cut the insides of a spare key and switched them to the legacy one. programmed the key in 5 min. reason i went to dealer is because i wanted it now. lol.

Has anyone successfully done this for a 2012 Impreza (non-wrx, non-laser-cut) key? Earlier in the thread it was said that all it'd take is cutting the blank, but the blank on the switchblade shell doesn't look like a non-laser blank... it doesn't have the long groove parallel to the blade. Or does that get cut in when cutting the sides?

the flip key should come with both types of blades. i know mine did. i purchased it off e-bay, but it is the same high quality key the guys are using/selling on here. i am sure the op will let you know if his comes with both blanks or not.
