I would, but I have zero experience using a Dremel. I was hoping I can find some luck with a locksmith that can just the blank key for 15 to 30 dollars around here.

Otherwise, this is the only thing that's keeping me from going forward with this mod.

This is the only bit I used to cut and grind the valet key. Very easy. I didn't even use a vise. Just make sure you use some kind of eye protection.

EDITED: confirmed this works for the 2002-2003 wrx

I used a 2009 legacy key set

I was having trouble because I didn't realize that after programming the 1st remote I had to open and close the door again to program the next remote and again for every remote after (up to 4 remotes)

but finally got it right and it WORKS

^^I asked the question on a previous page, pretty sure you need a legacy key and just need to reprogram the fob. Our 2003 wrx's don't use a transponder, I plan on doing this on my 2003 wrx as well.

Key cut for free bc guys at dealership didn't believe it could work... no wonder I won't take it there for any maintenance.

And I drove it out of the lot with the new key lol

Maybe I can sent you my key with the flip shell and you can help me get it cut as well? Let me know how much it will cost.

=)

xluben, were you successful in removing the transponder from a new 09 legacy key? also anyone know the part number for it?

I have not tried that, but I think it has been done before. Some of the Legacy keys have the transponder epoxied in completely so it looks very difficult to do. I'm not sure if they're all like that, or if it varies by model year or what.

Great find! Just be warned that it's buyer beware on eBay. It's hard to know what you're actually getting in these auctions. It's very common for them not to be what they appear. I've stopped buying used ones on eBay because of the rate of incorrect items.

I guess I have to post this again. Please no PM's. I keep getting them.

I am still getting a lot of PM's. If you PM me I will just ask you to send me an e-mail. I have to empty my PM box every few days, and then I lose all of the conversation history, so it just does not work for helping with questions. Please send me an e-mail instead.

I can vouch for this, I ordered a flip key conversion shell off eBay and had issues with the key flipping out. The overall fitment and finish does not appear to be of the same quality as xlubens. Will definitely be ordering the second flip conversion from you...

Please don't support the eBay sellers trying to make a fast buck off this thread!

FYI, that one will not work with this mod. It's the 2012 Impreza key that isn't compatible with any other models. Sorry. If you bought it on eBay I would try to return it. This is why I don't recommend eBay.
