Sorry for the book:
Ok so here is my situation, question at the end! So I have a 07' Legacy 2.5i, and an 08' Impreza 2.5i. Both of my vehicles have a key & separate remote/fob. Like others I want out of that… too many things to carry. The Legacy DOES NOT have an ignition transponder/key. The Impreza DOES have the ignition transponder/key. BOTH of my keyless entry remotes are FCC ID: NHVWB1U711. I have done hours of research on the 09' Legacy All-In-One key (FCC ID: CWTWBU766), and this remote has been confirmed to work on the 07' Legacy 2.5i. -Bought one and waiting for it to arrive via mail.

Question: Leave the Laser cut key and transponder out of the equation for the sake of the question and simply think remote/fob...Since my 08' Impreza 2.5i remote/fob is also FCC ID: NHVWB1U711 just like my Legacy's, shouldn't the Impreza also be able to recognize the FCC ID: CWTWBU766, as the Legacy will. I want to know if the all in on 09' Legacy remote will work with the system on the 08' Impreza. My deductive reasoning based on my current equipment/ fobs leans me towards a yes. What do the homies think????

Nope, 08-10 Impreza is different. You'll need to do the 09 Legacy reciever box (as explained in the 09 Legacy All-In-One Key thread). Ignore the FCC ID for checking compatibility.

Part: 2009 LEGACY REMOTE

Known Compatibility:
2002-2007 WRX
2002-2007 STI
2002-2007 Impreza
2005-2009 Legacy
2003-2008 Forester

Part: 2011 LEGACY REMOTE

Known Compatibility:
2011-2013 WRX
2011-2013 STI
2011-2012 Legacy

Do you think I could take a 2011 legacy remote and program it to a 07 impreza 2.5i?
(Im thinking it won't because it is such a difference in years)

Or maybe a 08 legacy remote could be programmed to the 07 impreza since you said the 09 legacy remote will work with an 07 impreza.

Thanks.

No. Please reference the list I just posted. It makes it all quite simple.

Sorry misread the post.

But for the 09 legacy remote; is there a difference with the 08 legacy remote?

Just want to know this will work for sure before buying the necessary parts for my 07 impreza 2.5i.

The thing that bugs me is that for my 07 impreza, I would have to press and hold the lock button for panic and i have no trunk open button. Where the legacy key shows both a panic button and a trunk open button. To me, that shows that it would not work on my car.
Thanks.

Thanks very much for the help xluben, I’m pretty sure I will follow your advice. But let me interpret my understanding of your post to make sure I’m in the same page as you. So you are saying to get a 09’ Legacy (all in one) key for my Impreza, and that this should work even though the known Impreza compatibility for the 09’ key that’s posted 2002-2007 Impreza? AKA, 09’Legacy will work but has not been confirmed? Thanks for any clarification!

OK, I do know, because you just posted it. But you don't have your profile filled out and there have been other posts since your last one. This is why I want EVERYONE TO E-MAIL ME QUESTIONS. It is a waste of my time to try to pick through forum questions.

After you last question I posted this. Please read it carefully.

It tells you exactly what you are asking. But to make it clearer:

NO, THE 09 LEGACY KEY WILL NOT WORK WITH YOUR 08 IMPREZA

(unless you swap the remote receiver box to 09 Legacy as well, and then your OEM remotes will not work)

Had my key cut at a local locksmith for $35 since no stealerships were willing to do the cut in the Bay Area.
The flip key works perfectly.

Thanks xluben!!!!

Just out of curiosity, do any Subaru models (either JDM, USDM, or EDM) actually come with flip keys?

Where did you go to get yours cut? I got a quote for $35 too from A-Crane / Unlimited Locksmith in Redwood City.

I went to Schwenk lock & key on Winchester in San Jose about a block away from Stevens Creek Subaru behind the valley fair mall.

Just finished putting the key together and getting it cut. For those in CT, Schaller Subaru in Berlin CT will cut the key in seconds and they didn't even charge me for it.

Wrapped mine in 1080:

The included subaru decal/badge is pretty low quality, you're better off prying off the OEM one from the donor Legacy remote.

That looks great!

I did want to clarify on the badge/logo. It actually seems very high quality to me. Mine still looks like new. One thing people may not notice is that there is actually plastic protective film on the front of the badge. It can be very tricky to get off but once it is removed the badge looks much nicer.

Thanks!

As for the badge, sorry, that wasn't a criticism on you, as you're obviously not the one producing the actual flip key casing. The badge did look better after the protective film is removed, but my opinion is still that the OEM one is of a much better quality, especially in terms of the stamping. Of course, it's such a small part that few will ever pay attention to.

That's probably the thing I pay most attention to and I'm not really disappointed in it but you are right that it doesn't look quite like OEM. I'll try taking a high res comparison sometime.

Plus the OEM keys don't even have Subaru decals so it's a step up from that!

Took protective film off much better. Had the key for a month and really like it.
