This is amazing. I have been dying to make one of these for the longest time.

I am a new subby owner (2 days) and absolutely am going to try this.

This is I dont see my model listed in the OP. I have a 2011 impreza outback (not WRX). Can I still do this?

I did find this on ebay and wonder if it will work? I did some searching and it seems some ebayers sell the 2012 key but list it as the 2011.

Read the wrxforums link in the first post. And buy from xluben, not eBay.

Sounds good- thanks for the tip! I am so stoked to get this working. Luckily it sounds like for 2011 models its easier.

Once I get to 10 posts Ill be able to email him.

well, the best price i've seen for the legacy keyless unit to do this on my 2010 is about $75 on ebay. I figure I'm gonna hold off on this for some time way down the road. plenty of other things I'd spend $125-150 on first, but I think its pretty awesome and I'll get to it eventually.

If you can verify the codes then you can get a key for less than that. I got mine for $25 shipped

which codes are you talking about? as far as i know on the 2010 and older cars you had to change the keyless entry unit near the back glass.

So per the OP it looks like we buy the switchblade housing from him but the legacy key from dealer (ie stealers) or elsewhere.

Am I wrong? Can we get both the switchblade and legacy key from him?

I found a legacy key that seems to match via the wrxforums info (ebay)

As xluben states, buying the legacy key on eBay or used may or may not result in a bad/incorrect key. It's best to just get it from a dealer.

Okay okay I'll try to quell my frugal side and just the right key the first time. I found it on subarugenuineparts via the OP instructions..

Now Im just awaiting an email back from the OP- Im so impatient now that I can finally get a switchblade!

EDIT: his email went to my old email;he must have replied before I switched from my junk email to my real email on here..

It's not really about being frugal or not. It's more of a gamble.
Most eBay stores have a final sale policy. So if you buy it and its damaged or incompatible, you're still going to end up buying the other one. Doesn't make much sense IMO

Some eBay sellers to do offer refunds, but it's still a lot of extra hassle. I am simply trying to offer a hassle free option if people are interested.

Ive read through this thread a couple times and I can't find the exact answer I need. I bought a key online, uea I realize I shoulda gone through Subaru, and its supposed to be for a 2012 legacy. Everything looks right, except the fcc code is CWTWBU766. Ive gone through the process and the remote doesnt work. Am i doing something wrong or is this ley not able to work with a 2012 wrx?

For the 2012 WRX you need all the parts listed in this thread. Trying to cut corners on cost is what leads to these issues. If you want the correct parts, please send me an email and make sure the email you have set up with the NASIOC system is a working email that you monitor.

Ill email you shortly. Just to clarify, I thought I read on here that the FCC number doesnt matter. So from my experience it would be safe to say that this FCC wont work for this year model?

Just to clarify. If you have the correct FCC ID it is no guarantee that it will work. But if you have the incorrect FCC ID, then you know it will not work.
