Finally got around to cutting up my valet key. Obviously used the transponder, but I also went the route of using the valet key blade. (I never lock the glovebox) I absolutely love this litte mod. I got used to having just a fob when I had to drive my wife's car while she was at home with the new born, and I was waiting for my Wrx to show up. Subaru should have done this from the factory.

Lets see some pics of those keys that have been used and abused for months. I'd like to see how the case holds up.

Thanks xluben! Very clear instructions for a cool mod. Getting my new 13 WRX this week but already getting the parts I'll need for this. Been lurking here for quite a while, but had to sign up to say thanks. One of the best "how-to" threads I've come across!

Not to hijack a thread, but can anyone help me with a programming issues on my 2013?

I have a separate thread and videos posted now to show whats going on.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2514382

I get to the last part, and when entering the 8 digit number twice, nothing happens.

Where did you get the remotes? The used ones are very often incorrect or non working. Are you entering the code using the buttons on the door or on the remote?

I can't really tell what you're doing in the video and you're going very fast. But I don't think it should be beeping like that while you are entering the code. Do you have the door open or closed? What position is the key in? Do you get the long tone? I can't tell because you're rushing through it so fast.

I re-made one showing everything and going slower.

~door is closed as i am putting in code
~key is in the off position this time, (had it in on before too)
~long tone is before starting with first number.

Sorry rushing because this is my 20x attempt at this point.

You're definitely not getting into programming mode. There is no long tone before you start entering the code. And then it just keeps making a beeping noise at the same pace while you are entering the code. This is not correct. Are you going all the way on and off with the key?

Yup all the way off and on. 10x. I do get the constant tone (while beeping continues). The first number I put it constant tone stops. I also get beep confirming when I hit unlock.

If I pause the constant tone stops. Once 8th digit is entered than constant tone stays on again, and stops when entering first code number again.

I am having a hard time hearing it all on my phone in the car but what you just described sounds correct. Did you confirm the code is right by opening the remote?

CPod, you have to end the 10 on/off with the key in the on position, I know you said you tried that, but you didn't show that in the videos you are programming with the key in the off positon, it needs to be on "run" position. Don't worry about the key working or not until you have properly programmed the number. If you don't get the lock/unlock confirmation from the car at the end of programming, you didn't program the code.

Check this video, shows the right way, pretty much the same as you, notice he does it in the key on position, and he gets the lock/unlock confirmation at the end:

Took about 2+weeks to get my parts in from Ben, he shipped them out as soon as he was able to pick them up:

Received it this morning and took me about 3 solid hours to put it together. I used a dremel with a few different attachments, my cut ain't pretty like Ben's but I got it in flush and it holds tight. Programming took me 2 tries, it was easy after I re-read the steps a few times and got it down.

You also need to rewind the springs a few rotations so the key ejects once you press the button down, took me a min on that. The fob feels heavier but it's fine for me as you can see I already have a Blox nut as my house key...

All in all, very happy with this DIY

Thanks again Ben.

After about four months, I finally got around to assembling everything! I love it! Anybody know of a way to make the trunk popper work on an 04? I would like to have it work simply to have it, plus I have a fully shaved trunk so it's kind of a PITA if the valet tab gets bumped.

It took me that long just to put it back together! Haha just kidding, the spring is kind of tricky, but it goes right together.
