Sorry, if you can't even read the thread, I would NOT suggest you try this.

You should basically ignore the sentence in italics. Everything else you need to know is available. If you have to ask such simple questions, you should NOT try this. Getting the right parts, assembling them, and programming the car is far more complicated than just reading a post. If you can't do that, I would believe that you would have very little chance of successfully completing this mod.

So from my understanding the 2011 legacys have the same receivers as the 2011 wrxs, which is why you can use the legacy key and still have the other keys work correctly. How would one go about this then if it was to be done in a 2010?

There's a link to that info in the first post.

It looks like this switchblade key mod is going to be the first mod I do to my 2012 WRX!

I just bought a Legacy Key (CWTWB1U811) on eBay for $27.98 shipped and hopefully xluben can source me a switchbalde key shell within the next few weeks. I also talked to my local dealership yesterday and I was told they charge $40 to laser cut a new key.

If all goes well I expect to have about $90 into this mod but it will be worth every penny. I've been driving a VW for the past 8 years and needless to say, I'm quite used to having a switchblade key.

Great! One thing I would do is to take the Legacy key apart and find the programming code. Then try programming it and make sure it works with your car. I would do this right away when you get it. Most eBay items have a 14 day return policy. I would hate for you to get stuck with the wrong key while waiting on a shell from me.

Sounds like a decent price on cutting. The way you're doing it should be pretty easy and straight forward. A very good option (and your retain all your OEM keys).

That would be a great idea if I had my car... I jumped the gun on this mod and wanted to get started even without my car (it is due to arrive at the dealership on June 4th).

And yeah, when I heard I could get a key cut for $40 I was pleased. Like I said, coming from VW and being so used to a switchbalde key, I don't mind paying $90 for a brand new working switchblade key for my WRX. That and I don't care to have a valet key so it won't bother me one bit to cut it open and "borrow" the transponder chip for the switchblade.

Thank you! The first one linked won't work at all, and the second one is of questionable quality. If you want the one that I used (the GOOD one), please send me an e-mail!

Yes.

You will also need to cut said key or modify your current key and move the key and internals into a shell (if you want the flip version)
