I know that the 2011 legacy keys work with the 2011 imprezas, but do any other models work too? For example, I found an 08 forester key and was wondering if it could be programmed to work with my 2010 impreza without changing the key less module. Any help or links would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it worked, don't you it would have been mentioned by now?

Probably not since there is no real reason for one to use a forester key since its the same set up as we have now, with a key and extra teardrop fob. I just stumbled upon a Switchblade made for the 08 forester, or actually an 07 impreza, from ikeyless.com and just wanted to know if it was possible.

Checked out my mom's 2011 Outback key today. It has the same FCC ID of CWTWB1U811 on the sticker. I'm gonna try to steal it with out her knowing and see if it works.

I got my used Legacy key in the mail today! Everything looks good, the buttons are in great shape and the FCC ID is CWTWB1U811. Now all I need is a switchblade shell and for my car to show up so I can hack up one of my keys. I'm not going to lie, this has to be one of the coolest "first" modifications I've ever done and I don't even have the car yet!

I would suggest opening it up and making sure it has an 8 digit code inside (like this):

I agree, it's a very cool first mod to do!

Is there a way that the dealer would be able to program the Legacy remote to the car without having to go through all those steps like a mad man?

It's really not that bad once you do it. And yes the dealer can do it, but they will charge you.

I posted about this site a few days ago, only a couple posts back. I have a 2010 though and they don't have a switchblade listed for it. I definitely want to know how it works though so post asap.

my local subaru dealer told me they'd cut and program the key for $30 so that may be an option for you guys that get the key but are stuck waiting for the flip. having the key with the integrated fob is nice in the meantime...

That's great news! It seems to be hit or miss on whether dealers are willing to do this or not (and what the price will be). I hope everyone is able to get their blades cut once the flip housings arrive.

Scratch that. They wanted $30 to program and $40 to cut it. I had them cut the key and I decided to steal the transponder out of the valet key. I couldn't remember if the 2011 Legacy transponder would have worked while there so I didn't want to risk paying another $30 when I could take the transponder out and program the fob myself.

I think that's the route that makes the most sense (if you don't want to cut up the key blade yourself). Getting the key cut is the only thing that is "hard" to do on your own. Swapping the transponder and programming the remote is quite easy.

Yep - literally took me 10 minutes to cut the transponder out of the valet key and to program the remote. Even though it's a lot of steps, it's super easy. I actually like the combo key enough where I may not even bother with the flip and leave it as-is.

Yeah, it seems difficult, but really isn't once you do it. Most of the extra words in the instructions are just telling you what to do if you screw up.

yeah, I got the key from Keene Subaru (www.subarupartslive.com) when I ordered my HIDs.. they offered to program it for $25 so that may be an option, too - I should have done it. I told them no... Cityside cut it for me ($40+tax).. They wanted $30 to program it - but why bother when you can just take the transponder from the valet and program the fob easily enough at home...

If you decide to order one, I'd wait for WBM - Keene is a sponsor and will be doing a discount... Probably 10-15% like last year.

thanks, appreciate the heads up.

when cityside cut the key did you have to provide the original key or were they able to look it up by the key ID? just curious if it would be possible to order the key, programmed and cut all in 1 shot.

if you have the master key with the metal tags, i think you're all set. they cut the key using one of mine as a template, though. email ben up at keene and see what he says - he would definitely know.

If you have the numbers on the metal tags, they should be able to cut the blade for you.

Nice this is awesome.

I would like to mod my Impreza 2012 key with this mod.

Xluben, I am too new on the forum to email you through NASIOC but in case you read this do you still provide the Flip key housing?

Basically as long as I take out all the components of 1 of the 2 master keys I have and let it be cut according to the metal plate that came with the keys I should be good to go and no programming is needed (if I can fit everything back in the Flip key housing)

I'm not familiar with the 2012 Impreza key. Is it the same as the 2011 WRX? If it is, you will need the 2011 Legacy key to use the remote. You will have to program the remote to work with the car (this can be done yourself).
