So Im sitting at a friends house watching 12 Monkeys.....one of my favorites.....when my cell phone rings at almost midnight. Its a Lakewood city police officer who had just found my car in the Parkn'Ride on 6th and Union. He told me I need to come down right away in the next 30min or so to pick up my car or he will send it to the impound lot. So we drive down there as fast as we could and there was my car, in the very back corner of the lot.
All the yellow is gone, the grill, the hood vents, fog light vents, the thing under the hood scoop, the windsheild banner. My first impression was "Oh no, what happened? I dont think my car will be able to drive home." In the dark there didnt seem to be any outside damage.....no scratches, nothing broke or cracked. key hole still worked, window was fine. The inside had some scratchs around the ignition and it smelled like smoke. The seat was moved up, all the mirrors were moved. Nothing was stolen, my cd's where still there. They drove almost 150 miles in my car If you just stole a car, would you stay in the city and drive around for 150miles!!!!!!!! Theres NO clutch. If I barely.....and I mean very very littly touch on the clutch, it disengages. And the brakes, I have to push the pedal all the way to the floor. The steering wheel vibrates and the car drags to the right. The cop said he saw it here a couple days before, but didnt think anything of it because people park long term in this lot all the time. But tonight he just decided to run the plates and guess what.......... He thinks that who ever stole it just dropped it off for a couple of days until the "heat" cooled down and then who knows! YEA!!!!!! I have my car back. I will miss the rental though, driving across feilds, through trash cans, and flying over dips and railroad tracks. I just need to put the air filter back in and the exhaust back on Again, thanks everyone!!! Kurt

Awesome man! Hope it's not too screwed up. Go through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure you find all the problems. Good luck.

What do you think they did with it?
I wonder if they raced it, that would explain the clutch. I wonder if they thought they were going to keep it...that would explain the missing yellow. Trying to 'hide" it in public. That's odd, usually they trash it and ditch it or strip it. I don't think I have even heard of someone trying to make it their own. dumbasses! -disco |

I wonder if the thief lurks on this board at all, saw your post about the yellow stuff, and took it off?
Or maybe he just wanted to be less noticed all around. Good to hear it was returned.josh |

I think the weirdest thing is that everything was still there on the inside....cd's, the ignition, it looked pretty much just how I left it on the inside. Im still driving the rental car around because Im afraid to drive my car w/ the no brakes and clutch and all. The engine sounds weird to......on start ups, there is a rattleing noise coming from the engine, the steering wheel vibrates pretty bad, it reallt pulls to the right, it doesnt shift as smooth as before. My car got beat up bad
Thanks Kurt |

Is the "breaking their knees" rule still in effect if we see someone walking around with a yellow grill under their arm?
At any rate, it's good to hear you got your ride back! -mike |

Glad to hear it. I know it's lousy that they messed it up, but believe me, it could have been much worse. Hope the insurance makes it right.

Kurt,
I'm glad to hear that you have your car back!! I would advise you not to drive it until it is fixed first, because it is not safe and second, more damage can occur and third, in some instances insurance companies can deny certain parts of your claim because your policy states that you will guard against any further damage occurring after the theft. I would just hate to hear that you had a much bigger problem with the car or more importantly were in the hospital because of a malfunction. I used to be a customer service representative with a major insurance carrier although I had not seen the company deny a claim for that reason I have seen people go thru it with others. Troy |

Have you ever taken your car to a dealer to have it serviced? I took my car to (***, I can't remember their name) and they 1) "Lost" my keys and 2) "Lost" my remote. They made me new ones but I was PISSED. As far as I am concerned, some dishonest employee is running around with a key AND remote to my car, and has my home address.
