Final (for now) config for my DPMS AP4 308. Recent changes were Magpul ACS Light (with thicker butt plate) stock, Big Chubby muzzle break and AR 10 shorty AR-Restor recoil buffer. Also on are Viking Tactical sling, EOTech 552XR308 holographic with dust cover and magnified with EOTech G23 3x magnifier with flip to side mount. Also, a Timney 670 AR 10 single stage trigger and 2nd gen KNS hammer and trigger pins, UTG rail covers, Magpul AFG2 grip, BCM AR10 large latch charging handle (digs like a bitch into your chest when you have the sling tight) and EBRv2 (extended bolt release, AR 15 part worked for me). Finishing it up is a Magpul DPMS compatible mag and a dust cover that says "Zombie Hunter" on it (a real PITA to change out as the barrel has to come off for it). It now has about the same recoil as a 223, which is a nice change Still heavy as a MF though

The barrel does not have to come off to change the dust cover, I just did it....

fine, but you do have to f with the barrel nut. Still a 60$ tool for me to do it right.

Can you post a larger photo? Unless thats completely different to mine, you dont even have to do that. Just pull the dust cover pin retaining clip off and the pin will come out backwards.

Oh that is a weird way of doing it. Certainly a pain in the ass if it somehow broke in the field too.

Speaking of breaking, I recently had to replace the extractor. It failed out at the range and had me worried it was something worse
Replaced with new and working great now!

You broke an extractor? I just finished putting 35000, yes 35000 rounds through an AR and nothing broke.

nice job . What broke on it?

The actual part of the extrator that is removable from the whole. The edge looked like someone chisled away at it making it look like teeth marks. Apparently it's not uncommon for a DPMS 308. No steel casings used, so it wore out on brass

Sounds like **** metallurgy. I noticed the chips on your ejection port too ...

I kinda want to build a .308 gas gun, but bastards are boat anchors. I like to keep my AR light.

Right now I'm running basically an M4A1 clone. Hopefully Tuesday I'll be doing the paperwork on my new M16 lower.

PTR-91 or a real HK91. Not light, but I prefer it over the AR platform, especially for the heavier rounds.

They just cost a damn fortune to modify. They aren't modular (well, as much as an AR) and everything is welded. The AR platform is much easier to work around.

I suppose a G3 is what, $9 - 11K these days. That's not too bad if I was looking for a battle rifle. The HK91 is a beast on brass though.

I haven't seen a G3 for sale in quite a while, though legitimate rebuilds of the PSG-1 and MSG-90 (built up from the HK91 with factory parts) appear in the $5-8k range every few months.

What's to modify? They're a solid platform as is (if you avoid the cheap CETMEs) so all you need is a rail system that works with the action, the rest is all the same picatinny bling. I compare the AR and HK platforms to Hondas and Subarus: the AR is the Honda in that it has tons of parts to choose from ranging from cheap to expensive, whereas the HK is like the Subaru where you can find cheap parts but generally you don't want them touching your car/gun

I do like the M14/M1A platform for .308 as well, but even the composite versions are heavy. At a "machine gun" event I went to for a friend's b-day we got to shoot full auto AR-15, M14, MP5, and AK-74 (that's the 5.56 variant, right?). I fell in love with the M14: once you got used to the ridiculous amounts of recoil you could get some pretty sick bursts from it, and being a 7.62 it had the best range and stopping power of the lot. However the MP5 also put a grin on my face, certainly SMGs have their place

Had a neighbor that needed to unload his .44mag for some fast cash, so I picked it up from him for the shop. I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight.

8" Colt Anaconda with scope.

AK-74 is normally 5.45x39.

Nope. Different neighbor on the opposite side. Somebody pulled a hit and run on his Harley so he has a deductible to pay.

And here it is. 8" Colt Anaconda 44 magnum Realtree model. Colt only made them one year, in 1996, and only made a thousand of them. This particular one has been sighted in through the scope and then put away.

Ridiculous beast of a revolver that's over a freaking foot long.

Got the accessories in for my new bolt gun. NF rail and rings and Vortex PST glass. CDI bottom metal wasn't right for my stock so I have to ship it back to CDI for a swap. Dropping it off at the smith tonight to get the optics properly torqued and leveled. Also got a monster drag bag that should be able to fit both long guns.

Meanwhile the Form 4 wait begins

I realized I have a perfectly good server sitting unused that I could trade for firearms if anyone is looking to offload guns for server/workstation hardware. That's where most of the rest of my spending money goes but this extra one hasn't been used. Not that I need more guns than computers, but I can always use more options at the range whereas I only have enough desks at home for the workstations.
