Sold a couple of guns this week and plan on going to the gun show this weekend to look into either a SBR AR build, or an AR pistol. Since I plan on supressing everything, I may just go pistol that way I don't have to do the paperwork on the gun and only pay my 1 tax stamp.

There's a guy that makes serious suppressors not far from me in Plano. They're pricey, even for a suppressor, but being that local might have its advantages for customer support. He was nice enough to do my Form 4 transfer. Let the wait begin!

Bump. Here is a pic of my .40 XDM. Love the feel of this gun, very solid. Now I am looking to build a decent AR15.

Well, I built a new AR this weekend after a visit to the gun show. I'll post pics after work.

Composite upper with chrome barrel, free floating quad rail, Spikes Tac lower (Zombie edition), RRA parts kit, magpul AFG/Ergo/PMags (in tan), single point sling, etc.
Still need to grab a nice red dot, laser, and wait for my suppressor and extra compensator to get here.

I plan on putting some down the pipe this week...not bad for an AR Pistol!!!!!

That's an NFA upper. Anything with a barrel under 16" is. Careful when selling it, since the installation on a standard lower automatically makes the weapon an SBR. Anyone you sell it to has to have a BAFTE Class 3 tax stamp or it's illegal to mount it.

And you're liable for that because you sold it. Look for a class 3 dealer to sell it to unless you want the hassle and paperwork pain. Because selling it requires a $200 SOT transfer fee to be paid for by the buyer to BATFE and a waiting period for the paperwork to be approved.

Damn, it's up to six months again? The backlog hasn't been that bad since, well, the last presidential election year. Guess that whole "quick sale" thing is gone, unless he wants to sell it illegally.

Actually, its a pinned flash hider, so its not NFA at all .

Also, the upper is not registered so there would be no stamp on the upper.
As long as you already have a valid SBR lower you would be good to go either way.

Just because it isn't registered doesn't mean it's legal. If it were an NFA upper instead of being pinned, not having it registered would make it highly illegal. It just means that the upper isn't registered with the BATFE. I have an 11.5" dissipator barrel in my safe for my future Commando build when my Class 3 SOT for 2012-13 comes in, but if I throw that on my M4 now, it doesn't make it okay because it isn't registered.

Not jumping on you at all or anything, but now that I'm an FFL with my own business, I make sure that things are on the up and up. I recently had a guy try to sell me a 10.5 inch compete upper that he built and wasn't registered as an SBR, but I declined because I'm too pretty for prison.

Here's the new build from the weekend. Need to find a nice laser and a durable red dot to mount up front. I also plan on wrapping the buffer tube in tan paracord and getting some tan rail covers to finish it up. It's light as hell as it has a full polymer upper (molded rails) with chrome barrel.

Here it is in comparison to my 16.5" build:

Its all about intent basically. If I have NO legal SBR'd lowers, and I had a non pinned upper below 16" then thats a big no no. However If I have a SBR'd lower, I dont have to do any paperwork on the SBR uppers I guy.

However it does get a bit wobbly when you have more SBR uppers but say only one of your lowers was SBR legally.

On some guns the upper is the registered part however. Like on my FN SCAR the upper is registered, so in order to have a short barrel on that I have to have the upper engraved and do the paperwork on it.

Don't say SCAR. Everytime I see a SCAR 17S, or even a picture of one, I start looking around to see what I can sell so that I can buy it.

This. And yes, James you're too pretty for prison. You'd get traded for a carton of cigarettes the first day.

Back to the thread. I got a hell of a deal on a trade:

Got this sweet P30 V3 9mm in trade for my P229 SRT which I got in trade for a Gen 3 Glock 19... What!?!? I basically traded a G19 for that HK.

Met some Subaru guys at the TargetMaster range today to kill some paper. Finally dialed in the sights on the AK, then shot a friend's Walther 9mm and a rented 1911 .45.

Tried to go to the Garland public range first, but apparently they're still restricting any rifle ammo over 5.56, so my 7.62x39 wouldn't fly. TargetMaster was fine, but I had to buy their ammo since apparently mine had too much steel in it. Will be going back to Elm Fork next time. Have never gotten any grief about ammo there.
