If my gunsmith was able to get the bottom metal done on my new .308 then I'll hopefully be out at Top Gun tomorrow breaking in that stick and walking the cannon out to 500.

James if you're holding on to your Savage .308 and want to swap your bottom metal for the 4-round DBM I'm taking out let me know.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I might be down for the swap since it's going to take me more time to raise the funds for my LR308 build than I thought. And the Savage could use some added capacity.

TargetMaster was fine, but I had to buy their ammo since apparently mine had too much steel in it. Will be going back to Elm Fork next time. Have never gotten any grief about ammo there.
It was fun! Made me jump when that guy next to us at the pistol range started shooting the 12 Ga though, that was louder than expected!

You don't happen to have late-gen NV that will mount in front of my Nightforce, do you?

No spigot-mounted Atlas?

The AICS chassis is nice. Its in the running for a possible chassis swap my short-action Savage may get in the future. It's already using AICS mags so it only makes sense to go the rest of the way with it.

Went out to break in the new Savage with its newly-installed CDI bottom metal. Bought 200 rounds of crappy ball ammo so I could fireform the brass. That AE stuff sticks pretty bad but hopefully the brass cleans up well for reloads. That .308 kicks more than the .300 WM so I think I'll wait until I get the TBAC brake installed before taking it out again

I brought a friend out to spot/shoot, apparently her first time ever shooting a rifle (only pistol and shotgun before), who proceeded to make one ragged hole at 100 yards before stretching out to sub-MOA at 200 yards with the cannon. I didn't want to find out if she would outshoot my 1/2 minute group at 300 so we packed it up

Built this for a customer today. DPMS LR308. He wanted an M4 stock on it, so I had to use the DPMS 6-position buffer tube with heavy weight buffer to mimic the action of the A2 buffer tube and fixed stock, so I threw in a Wolff extra power spring to soak up the extra recoil.

Hopefully that will help. If not, well, I guess he's gonna have a sore shoulder.

I'll cross that bridge later. Admittedly it has a lot to do with the platform. The cannon is a tack driver, and despite it being a .300 WM it doesn't recoil at all so it's easy to shoot comfortably. For a first-timer the lack of much recoil will help tame the flinch a lot of new shooters exhibit.

The nice thing is that I know it will have the potential to reach out much further with much the same consistency. However I'm approaching 1000 rounds through the pipe so I'll probably be shopping for a new barrel this time next year.

I like what they do for gun-rights, but I have no desire to be on any additional "list of gun owners" (beyond whatever ones I may already be on) such that some future angry politician(s) can more easily find me.

In fact, this isn't even 'me' writing this, it's some other kids... damn kids hacked my computer and are now writing in 3rd person about themselves and their derring-do ... you know how this millenial generation is all about self-aggrandizement.

I think they stopped caring about gun rights a long time ago and now just send out crazy rumors to keep people scared in order to gain political power. Irritating for those of us who don't like rhetoric.

+1

I totally appreciate the firearms safety programs and training they offer and fully support them in that, but their lobby can sometimes cast a bad light on gun owners. I don't mind portraying myself as one of the "damned hippy liberals" but I also support gun ownership and have even ordered my first suppressor. I am a little on the fence about owning automatic weapons, but with how hard it is to get them and how pricey they are I don't really feel threatened by them.

I'm assuming the NRA is running the promo to try to fight the anti-gun zealots that are popping up again. I think they're both too extreme, and the proper answer is pretty much where we are now, which I feel is a moderate stance on "gun control".

I might have a totally skewed opinion on the NRA because I'm a dealer, but the NRA has accomplished a lot when it comes to maintaining current gun ownership rights.

They were instrumental in overturning the assault weapon ban and have consistently kept conversations about banning certain weapons out of congressional voting. After the Ft. Hood shooting happened, there were a bunch of congressman who tried to push a bill banning the sale of 5.7x28mm ammunition because of the high magazine capacity in weapons chambered in that round. The NRA successfully lobbied to remove that bill from the voting floor.

While they do play the "OMG they're trying to take your guns!" card a lot, this is just to get money to fund their lobbying. Sure, the sensationalism gets annoying, but without the NRA, gun owners would be much worse off. I support them by paying my membership fees every year, but I don't give the ILA (lobbying branch) additional money, because I don't agree with a lot of their fear mongerring tactics.

Still, without the NRA, I can guarantee you that the assault weapon ban would still be in place and none of us would own so-called "high capacity magazines."

As far as full automatic weapons go, they're ridiculously expensive and insansely hard to get, and that deters the majority of people from owning them. I personally don't think normal citizens need to own full auto guns, but I'm not going to offer up reasons for legislation against the ownership of them. Look at the example of a full auto Glock 18. They're only $650, but go ahead and try to get one. You can't. Cops can't. Military can't. They're sold to specific people, and despite them being cheap, Glock is very hesitant to sell them. When it comes to FA weapons, the manufacturers tend to do more regulation of their sale than the government does. And the NRA doesn't have a chance in hell of overturning that.

Is Spider Pig the closest FFL to Fort Worth? Selling my Mini 14 to a friend but I have to get it shipped here from VA.

Thanks for thinking of me, but I'm not. You can find FFL listings on Gunbroker.com for someone who is much less of a drive for you than heading to Plano.

Nick isn't a big fan of firearms, which is why you can't sell anything related to guns in the classifieds, so I doubt that will happen.
