Default The Truth about Prosport Gauges, Former Employee

Please read everything (sorry its really long)
Most of you know me on here and ive talked to hundreds of you on the phone.

The Truth about Prosport Gauges and there return rate!

This is a long time coming and i have to speak up and tell the truth about Prosport Gauges and my former boss. Many people know me, mostly on the subaru forums. I worked for prosport from day one. I spent over three years building a company that i thought i would end up staying with for a very long time.

Ill back up for a minute. After spending 5 years in the army i returned home. Ive always been into cars and i heard about prosport from a friend. I went into there location and bought several products and poped the question and asked if they were hiring. 2 weeks later i was working there. I didnt know what i was getting myself into but found out really quick i was the only employee they had.

My day to day tasks were:

Answering all email tech support
Answer all phone in tech support
Handle all repairs and returns
Do all ad/graphics work in the magazines
Ship to distributors
Ship to Customers
blog and push information on all the forums
Test all new products
Take pictures and edit them for the website
Take inventory
Stocking inventory when shippments would come in
Keeping the warehouse clean
New catalogs and updating them.

*I basicly did everthing under the sun. I was the only employee working there

I loved it at first, I have to say it was great. Please know before you read any further my intentions are clear, i gain nothing from this but you will realise why im doing this. My first 90 day review was great, Glenn (my boss) told me he needed me there, and i would soon have less of a load on my plate thru the day. Usually when a company grows you hire more employess and split departments up and asign people to each one. Man was i so wrong.

I cant tell you how much each day went by i would start to really wonder were i would be at in this so called family business lol.

Glenn my boss really changed. Things at work wernt fun, i would get yelled at on a daily basis when our shipping guy would screw things up. *edit, we did have a shipping guy but he only shipped to residental houses. If numbers were wrong or got invoiced by him and they were wrong i would get the wrath. He would almost everyday tell me to do something, but id be in the middle of something else so id have to drop it! Things became hard for me to remember what i was doing. When your the person doing everything, you sort of feel in charge and thats what i did. Thats my mentality, I would always have to tell Glenn things about our products. It seemed like i would teach him things. There was a major flaw in the new EVO series wideband that i brought up. To make a long story short because well im the new product tester the gauge runs off two different wire sources for lighting. The o2 sensor Ignighter switch only worked on one color at a time. so you cant switch colors. it was a nightmare and im not sure if its solved at this time, i found this out about 2 months before he told me to leave. There was just so many issues with the gauges, (lighting, Movements, buttons, and mainly accuracy) We would send a box full of defective parts back to Taiwan so Glenn would be reimbursed. Smart guy i guess! The accuracy issue was the most frustrating thing ive ever been through in my life. At times i couldnt take it and id personally email Taiwan Prosport to talk to people about fixing the issue. While i recieved many revisions on sensors it never truly got better. The accuracy isnt +/- 1%. its way worse!!!!!!

other things that were frustrating: id be in the back doing something and the phone would ring, Renee( Glenns wife ) would page me and tell me i have a support call. Id come to the front talk on the phoen with a customer for 30 min. then another call would come in, then another..... If things wernt done specifically to glenns standards he would talk down to me in a sort of im better then you way!

There is not much to say about Renee, at times it was so freaking hard to work with this lady, We were constantly battling on standards and the right way to do things. I was there 2 years before she came in and i felt like she wanted things her way. we always butted heads.

Glenn is the biggest penny pusher ive met. While he bought a lambo Gallardo, a 5 series BMW for his wife, a brand new boat, new STI, monthly vacations, I was left at the warehouse alone to do everything. I felt like a slave!!! at that point i had enough, I asked very nicely for a raise. I think at the time i was making $12 which isnt bad but i knew what kind of money was coming in. I know everything about everything. I asked Glenn for a raise and he said we can talk about it. Now at the time, Glenn mentioned to me he wanted me working till 6pm. I didnt agree as i lived 30-45 min away depending on traffic. I didnt want to get home at nearly 7pm.

This is were things got really bad. Glenn pulled me in his office and sat me down, his dad was there. He said "we are going to put you on salary" your going to make a extra $5k a year. I said wow cool, im ready things looked good, but NOPE. A week goes by and i leave work at my normal time 5pm. I often stayed later if we were on back order for things or if IIIIIII was just swamped with work. Glenn asks me "why am i leaving", I respond with "what do you mean". he says your suppose to stay till 6pm.

Now let me take a min here and really tell you what glenn tried to do, and im more upset because i thought i ment more to prosport then this shaddy *** tactic he tried to pull. This isnt about money! he wanted me to work more hours and say it was a $5k raise, well no its not! I really thought about it asked alot of my friends and family how they would feel. They said its wrong. I brought it up and said i want to be put on hourly and he said fine but was upset i didnt want to stay till 6pm.

Let me tell you why this idiot wanted me there till 6pm, to answer the phones. Thats why we have a answering machine. We would only have tops 3 messages each morning. It is damn near pointless to keep your only employee there another hour. I thought it was the dumbest thing.

When going to events like Sema or out of state shows i got no per diem, Glenn played the roll like, ill give you a day off if you come which hey was fine with me but when going to sema, he never wanted to pay for my food, no per diem....nothing. I felt like i had to beg him to feed me. Im sorry but its expensive to eat there and i couldnt afford it. He told me he would pay for my food and room but it was really hard for me to come to him every evening or morning and ask for food. I dont know it was frustrating to say the least.
I put in so much time and effort into prosport, I really cared about it! I love cars and the whole import Culture. I asked Glenn numerous times that we need to fix some things and it starts with the quality. Taking any type of vacation seemed out of the question, i always felt like well since i wont be here i bet im going to deal with a bunch of drama when i return and when i would return there would be stacks of boxes in the return room, unanswered emails and phone calls id need to return, it was a nightmare. Glenn at one point gave my personal cell phone number to a customer and asked me to call customers from our sema booth to handle tech support on my own phone....I did not feel comfortable with that at all. He even had me working the show then answer emails while on break! Overall it wasn't right. Glenn doesn't know how to run a business at all. Most and all new products were all my ideas! There would be times glenn would return home from the amp show over seas asking me do you think this will sell, how about this, what do you think about that.....etc I cant begin to tell you how riced out this guy was, wanting to sell product i knew would never sell. People want to complain about how bad our economy is this is why! at the time i didnt see clearly! when you get business's like prosport that support other economy's (Taiwan) thats were our money goes. This is every were in the Import scene, everything is outsourced and made by cheap labor. Its the truth people. Most and many of the parts in your car are bought from over seas, and im sure alot of you know this.

The problem is Glenn buys all Prosport products from Tawain, Now ive met the real owner of prosport. See glenn is lets say a freight fowarder. The quality just isnt there yet in the Tawain Market. Because i did returns i know the true return rate! its over 30%. Yes its the truth. I dont need to lie to anyone. Im simply telling people the truth to warn you.

Why Im doing this:

The real reason im doing this is because glenn basicly told me to leave. One day he was in the back warehouse and supposedly things were out of place. We actually hired a guy to be in the back to take care of things after i begged glenn. his name is phil, great guy! I walked back there because everytime glenn would pass my desk to go to the back, id always jump up and follow to see if something needed to be done. He started yelling in my direction saying "Ill do everything here"! Glenns trailor was in the warehouse at the time with his 2 four wheelers that i actually cleaned for him out of kindness because fridays tend to be slow after 2pm. I was bored so i did it. Anyways, I asked glenn whats the problem, and he muttered something back and i walked over to see whats wrong. I said "Glenn didnt we just hire someone to do this"! He responded "GO HOME", i was shocked i said "GO HOME, Are you serious" he said "GO HOME" again so i left. I went home and though ok ill answer some emails and just work at home, maybe things would blow over. When i got home and tried to log into my go daddy email, Glenn changed the password. Now ive answered emails from home hundreds of times, on the road and even at shows. At that point i knew glenn had basicly pushed me out the door.

I left thinking okay, this is stupid and im sure it will be ok tomorrow however..... I text him not sure how he felt and asked "should i come get my things" he responds hours later "are you quitting" I said "no" but i dont like the way you talk to me or Kim. Kim works for glenns dads, totally different company but in the same warehouse.
I come in the next day, turn my computer on and walk to the back. I said hi and glenn did to. I walk back up front and his wife is on my computer. weird, she has her own computer. At that point i knew something was going to go down..... I sit down and Glenn comes to my desk and we exhange words and he says come to the back so i follow. I kid you not we had a 2 hour conversation in the back warehouse about our entire 3 year experience how we didnt like what the other person was doing. I said glenn listen, i dont like the way you talk to me or Kim. You have made Kim cry numerous times. btw she has worked for glenns dad for like 13 years. Glenn responds and im not joking. " I can talk to you or kim any way i want", he says "If i want to come in and call you a **** to your face im alowed to, im the boss"
I was shocked, I was upset and sad and pissed and you have no idea. All the hard work and dedication i put into this company and this is the way you treat your one and only employee thats gone above and beyond for you and your father!!!!!!! there was so many emotions running through my blood i didnt even know what to do. I told glenn he makes things for me and prosport more difficult. I actually told him when he is gone on vacations and i run things its so much smoother and me and Kim got along much better.
When Glenn would come back from vacation he would always sit down with kim and basicly bash her and tell her things were done wrong. I honestly felt so bad for her. Now at this point i knew he was telling me im fired. I said glenn "I made this company", I did everything! I put in the work and all you did was sit behind you computer" He basicly told me we need to go our seperate ways so i left. I didnt hear from glenn at all.

I thought maybe a week or two will go by and he will call me, NOPE. a month goes by and nothing. So i filled for unemplyoment. I started recieveing it and i told myself its time to go back to school which i did. MGIB ftw......

3 weeks ago i recieved a letter from the unemplyoment office stateing glenn told them i left and abandoned my job which isnt the case. I couldnt believe it, so many thoughts running through my mind. first and foremost i wasted 3 years on this company. The state of florida is telling me i need to pay back nearly $7k

Can i just say ive been on my own since 17 years old. I went into the army right after 911 and seen and done things most people would never want to do. two deployments, 14 medals in a 5 year span, graduated top 10 out of 200+ students in PLDC..... the list goes on. I was a 19DELTA scout.

I called Glenn and demanded a response to this letter and what is he even thinking pulling this crap. He blamed his dad and said he filled out the form, i call ********! I told him i would tell the truth about Prosport if he doesnt fix things and he said he would get back to me. Now i have to have a 3 way conversation with him and a medator to set the record straight on the 16th.

I hope people realise that this is being done to put the truth out there. I have put this off for far to long. Just know if you buy products from Prosport, expect to ship them back.

there is so much im leaving out, there is just way to much.....

Im staying far away from the Gauge industry. Im trying not to feel bad about this whole situtation but I feel so obligated to tell the truth about Glenn and his products.

Defamation claims arise out of false statements concerning individuals or businesses that tend to harm their reputations. Simplistically stated, you cannot be liable for defamation if what you publish is true. Indeed, under U.S. law, even if you inadvertently publish false information, you may escape liability if, in researching and writing your work, you have exercised the degree of care consistent with the principles of responsible journalists and authors. The degree of fault necessary to impose liability for defamation may depend on whether the subject of an erroneous statement is a public figure or a private figure.

Im also considering writing a letter and sending this letter to BBB.

And

contacting the IRS

I bought Prosport Gauges and they were awful. They were in-your-face bright as hell, had a real cheap feel to them, were not accurate whatsoever and the things kept breaking or malfunctioning in one way or another. Quality was terrible.

When I called, I believe I spoke to you, Ryan, on a few occasions and you actually defending the products, saying that you never had any returns and I must have been doing something wrong o.O

I'll never be buying Prosport again, although I made that decision a long time ago.

Either you spoke to me or Glenn directly. thats the only people who could have been on the phone.

I really did defend Prosport because i cared and always tried to improve quality with numerous emails to Prosport in Taiwan.

We had revisons on the sensors but nothing ever changed.

two days after I installed them, I threw them in the trash, that was 5 years ago. I still see prosport gauges on other cars and see money wasted.

not to mention how their exhaust manifolds look just like GTSPEC's..scumbags

you can't even make your products close to working, work on that first before you copy.

1) you know the market
2) you know the suppliers (think about the prosport competitors)
3) you know the shortcomings from both parts and service side
4) you should by now have the connections for getting the suppliers

start your own company and bring a better quality product to market.
