Default APC Clear Tails

APC clear tail lights require some very careful installation to avoid getting condensation mist deposits. Two WRXs in the family have had the same problem plus one other WRX in town. The problem is mostly in rainy locations. The tail lights MUST be installed to securily contact the supplied gasket provided (which is slightly thinner than OEM). The heat vents for the bulbs are large and face up so that any water leaking from the top gets into the inner lens. The inner lens is not sealed very well so moisture deposits on the inside of the outer clear cover. On both sets the outboard tab was molded a bit large (especially the right side unit) and required some minor filing to insert all the way in so that the gasket had full contact.

Other fixes to make sure there were no leaks included a thin bead of silicon sealer around the top. As a test, a small (1/16 inch) vent hole was drilled from the inside behind the red portion near the side marker bulb location. This seems to help, too.
Bottom line: The double takes and positive comments on the style are well worth the extra care in installing to avoid moisture condensation problems. Recommended part...
